The Orioles won all four of their games to claim the title. They Brst met Port Hope in a nail biter, winning 2-1. Adam Walton went four strong innings for the win, and Ben McCaffcry finishing the last three and recorded the save. The second game with Peterborough ended 4-1, with Craig Turner getting the win and Jeremy Black securing the save. Game three had Markham bowing out to the Orioles 4-2, with Jeremy Black notching the win and Craig Turner closing the door for the save. The championship game had the Orioles up against Bloomfield, who went down to the birds 5-1. Josh Dusomc went the distance in impressive fashion, looking just as fresh in the seventh as he did in the first. The tournament tournament win was because of a total team effort by all the players. Major Mosquito Selects Reach Finals in Orillia Under-10 Soccer Team Posts Shutouts in Last Two Games The Darlington Under-10 soccer team of the Central Soccer League demonstrated excellent skills during the last two games. The team, sponsored by Zellers, met Lake Simcoe at Hydro Fields on July 7. Chris Kindratiuk scored the first goal with an assist from Chris Jukic. In the second half, goal scorers were: Chris Jukic on an unassisted goal; Chris Kindratiuk, on a great play by Nicholas Bonin; Brian Allore, unassisted; and Scott Miller on a pass by Matt McMillan brought the final score to 5-0. David Ross was credited with a great shutout. Darlington's second game of the week, played on July 9, against Unionville, was a scoring feast for the Under-10 team. In the first half, Scott Miller scored twice as did David Ross. The second half saw goals scored by Brandon Weigel, Chris Jukic, Brian Allore, two by Stephen Phillips, and the final goal came from Matt McMillan. Assists were collected by David Ross, Stephen Phillips, Brian Allore, Geoffrey Powell and Chris Kindratiuk. Excellent passing was displayed by Eric Bonazza, Thomas Barker, and Kyle Harris. The shutout went to Chris Procknow. The final score was 10-0. Darlington Zellers record now stands at 6-4-1. During the last weekend weekend of June, the Major Mosquito Clarington Colts Selects competed in the Orillia baseball tournament. tournament. The first game had the Colts up against Thornhill. Clarington had a quick start scoring seven runs in the first inning. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double by Dan Charysz, and Tyler Welch's two run single. Brian Corcoran pitched a good game, allowing only two hits and no earned runs over three innings. Charysz would come in to pitch the final innings, only allowing two earned runs. The final score was 11-5. Top hitters for the game were Corcoran 3-4 (2 doubles, 3 runs, 2 RBI, and 3 stolen bases), Kurtis Salway 2-3 (RBI, 2 runs, BB, 2 stolen bases). Game two had the Colts up against Forest Glen. A good pitching performance performance by Brian Sellars and Charysz held Forest Glen to only one earned run. The offence for the Colts was four runs in the first and eight in the second. second. The colts put it on cruise control from then on, making the final 18-4. Top hitters for the game were: T.J. Wriglcy 2-2 (3 RBI, one run, one stolen base, BB), Tyler Welch 2-3 (double, run, RBI), and Steve Whillans 1-1 (2 BB, 3 runs, SB). The last round robin game was played against Barrie. The colts pitched a fantastic game with Sellars, Corcoran, and Salway sharing the duties. Sellars started the game pitching three innings, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out four. Then Corcoran came in for three innings allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two. Salway then came in allowing no earned runs. The offence was highlighted highlighted by key hits from Brendan Snider and Corcoran. The Colts would go on and win their third game 8-2. The semi-final game was played the next day against the always tough Whitby (white) club. Whitby came on very strong scoring eight runs in the first inning and then another two in the fourth. The Colts found themselves themselves down 11-5 going into the last inning. The winner of this game would face Pickering in the finals. With the never give up spirit, the club from Clarington would put the whole batting order on base with only one out. The Colts would send. another five batters up before Whitby could stop the determined club. Whitby would finally stop the boys, but not until Clarington scored 13 runs in the inning. Wrigley, Welch, Brock Hanely, and Whillans would all score two runs in the inning. The Colts would also have to shut the Whitby club down in the bottom half of the inning. The Clarington Colts would hang on for the victory, winning the game 20-14. Clarington was facing Pickering in the finals. Paul Skordoff started the team off with a single and would later score with Kurtis Salway, taking a 2- 0 lead. But the Pickering club was just loo strong for Clarington. Pickering would win the final 11-2. A good defensive tournament tournament by catchers John Coe and Paul Skordoff. Great tournament to all the boys, and a well coached team from head coach Mike Morin, and assistants Dave Salway, Tony Whillans, Jeff Heard. Lawn Bowlers Compete For Goodyear Trophy A beautiful warm, (hot) sunny day on Sunday, July 12, for the annual Goodyear Tournament which was in the form of mixed trebles. The Trophy for this event is a very valuable one and has been in existence for many years. It is keenly sought after.
