A time for celebration and reflection on the special place and time that Clarington is. And, the public, both residents and visitors, are invited to play a part in the development of a permanent photographic record of Clarington at this time. Jennifer Cooke, Marketing Officer for the Municipality, announced that the Municipality plan a "Day In The Life of Clarington" Photo Contest which allows for photo taking at any time between July 15th and July 31st - this means photos can be taken starting today, July 15th. The public arc encouraged to plan some different shots of family, friends, pets, scenery, action, or whatever else they feel delivers what Clarington is all about at this single point in its history. A set of rules and guidelines and entry forms arc available at the Clarington Administrative Centre or Tourism Office. Questions can be directed to (905) 623-3379. A $5 entry fee will be used to fund community community events during 1999. Every person entering a photograph will receive a special Certificate that indicates their involvement. A DC 25 Kodak digital camera is offered as first prize and is valued at $400 and will be donated by Lange's Foto Source. Also, the 25 best phqtographs, broken broken into professional, amateur and visitor categories, will receive a copy of the coffee table publication "A Day in the Life of Canada" as a gift from Equion Securities Canada. The 25 will also go in a draw for a prize of $250 cash. Further, 'Lange's Foto Source' is offering the first 100 families a single-use camera at just $5 so as many as possible can get involved. They are also offering a 50% discount discount coupon on photo finishing for those who purchase the single-use cameras. Families can take advantage of this offering until July 31st, 1998. Clarington is a special place and residents are encouraged to plan now to be involved beginning July 15th. The photographs will be displayed for everyone to see and a special special supplement will be circulated to all V homes. They will also be used to help develop develop tourism through the Municipality web site and in the various Municipality brochures. Rules This contest is intended to encourage amateur photographers to participate but professional photographers may also submit entries. A category for Clarington visitors also exists. 1. Each photograph entered must be accompanied by a completed Official Entry Form and the $5 registration fee. 2. Entries and photographs will be received at the Clarington Tourism Office until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 1998. The Tourism Office is located at 181 Liberty Street South, Bowmanvillc - across from the Clarington Hotel. 3. Participants may submit as many entries as they wish. 4. The photograph must be taken within the municipal boundaries of the Municipality of Clarington. 5. Photographs previously published in full or in part will not be accepted. 6. Eligibility: The "A Day in the Life of Clarington" Photo Contest is open to any amateur photographer. Only the photographer photographer can submit his/her photograph(s). 7. Submission Deadline: Monday, August 10, 1998 (6:30 p.m.) CIBC Extends Hours At Some GTA Branches Over 160 CIBC branches in (he Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have announced that they .will extend their hours of business - some by more than 20 hours a week. "Our customers have told us that they want longer branch hours, particularly at the end of the week, to take care of their banking needs,", said Steve McNair, CIBC's senior vice-president of the GTA. "We've responded by extending hours on Thursdays, Fridays and in some cases, opening branches branches on Saturdays." A total of 169 branches, or 65% of CIBC's branch network in the GTA, will be affected by this increase of hours, "These branches will provide full-service banking during these hours, which means customers can do everything from getting advice, on how to achieve their financial goals, to obtaining foreign currency or money orders," said McNair. Classes of beef and dairy cattle, heavy horses, potatoes, hay and pork chops were judged. The Hoogeveen family of Blackstock kindly donated donuts and pop which were enjoyed at the end of the evening. Animal Friends At the fourth meeting of the Durham East Animal Friends 4-H Club we visited Welcome Feeds in Bowmanvillc. Jim Hamilton led us on a tour where we visited the whole building and the feed room. He asked us what we feed our animals and what is in it. The minutes from the last meeting were read and roll call was taken which was "Name an animal from a television show or book." We did an assignment in our book with the group. Steven Found led a judging activity on stuffed animals. This was done so that we would have some practice practice for the judging competition competition on July 8,1998, at Blackstock Fair Grounds or the coaching night held at Tamblyns on June 29, 1998. Gillian Barrie Horse Club The third meeting of the Durham East 4-H Horse Club was held on June 23, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. at Coalition Acres, Ncwtonville. Kathleen Dcwcll and Karen Barkey led us in a discussion about parasites, small pests that make their home on another animal.
