Deputy Agriculture Minister Tours Archibald's Winery by Lorraine Manfredo Staff Writer Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Frank Ingratta, got a taste of rural Clarington on Monday and was impressed. His brief stop-over in our neck of the woods, well-known for its abundance abundance of fruit- growers, was at Archibald's Orchards on Liberty Street North, where a one-year- old winery has gotten off to a cork-popping start, winning major industry awards for its unique apple wines. Mr. Ingratta was on his way home from a visit at a juice processing plant in Trenton. He decided to make time to tour the Archibalds' apple orchard, see the winery and sample the wares. He was no stranger to the product, having scooped up a crate of Archibald apple wines at an auction this past spring to benefit the Advanced Agriculture Leadership Program With 15 varieties, Archibalds boasts the largest apple wine selection selection in Canada, says Sandy Archibald. The company celebrated celebrated a very successful first year which saw three of its products --Spiced Winter Apple, Sweet Apple Cherry and Hard Cider -- win awards at wine competitions competitions in Toronto, New Zealand and New York. Apples for the wines are grown in the orchard right on the premises. Other fruits come from outside suppliers. A good visit was enjoyed and some great food! Holly, who is to be married on August 22, thanked everyone everyone graciously for the gifts and their attendance. The work at the church is nearly completed. A big thank you to all those who helped! Church services move to Enfield for August 2 and 9 and then come to Tyrone for the rest of August.
