Proud parents Dwayne and Carolyn Martin with brother Decker announce the arrival of Katie Jane. Several Newcastle United Church members attended the service at Port Hope United Church on Sunday, August 2nd. Don Stiles Jr. rendered two solos. The minister was involved in the ■ Prince Henry Sinclair 600th Anniversary Celebrations in ' Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia last weekend, having ; served on the planning committee prior to coming to ; Newcastle. Reverend Chisling invited the Reverend Dr. , Malcolm Sinclair, senior minister of Metropolitan ; United in Toronto to come to NoVa Scotia to preach in ■! this little seaside village, population 150. ; There are celebrations in Scotland, the United States 1 and Canada all this year as interested persons celebrate the supposed arrival in Nova Scotia and Massachusetts ; of this Scottish explorer. He was thought to have been in r Nova Scotia over the winter of 1398-1399 with about I 200 people trying to establish a "refuge". They are ; thought to have built a boat in Advocate with the help of !• native people living in the area and then they sailed on to f another site in what is now Massachusetts. : The story is very interesting as. it includes stories of ; the Knights Templars - the history back to the Crusades and the search for religious treasures and the subsequent ! journey to what is now North America. Some of the cynics have been quoted in the media say ■ this is all, "fanciful nonsense". Should be an interesting year as it encourages more research and validating all • that has been written to date. There is a large Cape above the village of Advocate : Harbour in Nova Scotia called Cape D'Or and when someone asked where "we" thought Sinclair landed a simple "over there" was sufficient to have people look.
