Courtiœ Lions Club Starts Second Year The Lions Club of Courtice will start its second year with a Celebration Dinner on Tuesday, September 8. The celebration will focus on our successes of the past year. Due to the hard work of our 20+ Lions, support and encouragement from the Lions Club of Bowmanvillc, help when it was most needed from Councillor Jane Rowe, and most importantly YOU, the community, we had several very good fund-raising events. In just our first year, Courticc Lions made donations to the Courtice Complex, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, CNIB, Visual Arts Centre, Blue Heron Cadets, VIP program, Lions Leader Dogs and helped with the "Fish Mobile Project" at the Courticc Complex. We have many exciting and fun plans for our second year with an emphasis on the youth of Courticc. Nathan Blake is an absolute heart- throb. The 11-year-old Hampton lad is one of 11 boys who earned the title "Junior Heart-throb" at a dance competition in Niagara Falls, New York in May. The competition was hosted by Kim McKimmcc, a major American dance company. Out of 70,000 children from Canada, United States and Australia, 11 boys and 60 girls were chosen as Junior Heart- throbs and Junior Sweethearts, says Sandra Blake, Nathan's mom. Nathan was the only Canadian chosen. Between July 2-9, these selected young entertainers entertainers rehearsed and perfected perfected a two-hour dance show staged at the Horizon Casino resort in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Apparently, this is the same stage where Elvis Presley made his debut and the one where actress Ann Margaret had her infamous fall. Nathan says being on the show was probably the hardest work he has ever done in his dancing career. But he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and adds he wasn't a bit nervous competing competing or performing.
