Juried Exhibit Coming To VAC The entry deadline for the 18th annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition at the Clarington Visual Arts Centre is fast approaching. Mail-in forms and slides must be in by Sept. 10, while work must be delivered by Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. Works in a variety of media may be entered in this annual event showcasing showcasing artistic talent from across the province. The juror is Lisa Neighbour, a Toronto- based artist who has an extensive exhibition background, background, both in Canada and abroad. At any moment one of his delightful comedies is being produced somewhere in Canada or the United States. The Affections of May is no exception. Since its premiere in Fredericton in 1990, it has been widely presented. This year alone, it was performed locally in the spring at the Hcrongatc Barn Theatre in Pickering and in the summer in Scarborough. Now it is the Oshawa Little Theatre's turn to offer this romantic comedy, which The Montreal Gazette called "hilarious" and the Globe and Mail, "a charmer for all seasons." seasons." The Oshawa Little Theatre production is directed by Ray Porrill, a newcomer to the group, but no stranger to the Durham Region, where he has performed with the Whitby Courthouse Theatre, with the Borelians, and at Herongate, as well as directing The Odd Couple in Port Perry. The pivotal role of May, a city woman struggling to make ends meet by running a small town Bed and Breakfast, will be played by Linda Chapman, last seen at the OLT as Tzeital in Fiddler on the Roof. Linda has appeared with many other groups in the Region, most recently as Miss Wilkinson in Move Over, Mrs. Markham at A Touch of Class Dinner Theatre. Her husband Brian, who leaves her to return to the big city, will be portrayed by Jim Fcrr, who will be remembered for his performance in the OLT's Rumors, among other plays. Newcomer Randy Biggs will play the banker Hank Beavis, who offers May both financial help and his hand in marriage. Quinn, the handyman, who is also vying for May's affections, will be presented by Ken Bond, an actor whom Jacquic Mclnnes says has "a raw stage pres ence" and "a wonderfully ironic sense of humour." Ken was part of the award-winning award-winning cast of the OLT's The Dining Room. The Affections of May will be performed at the Oshawa Little Theatre, 62 Russctt Avenue in Oshawa, at 8 p.m. September 17-19 and 24-27 and October l-3, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, September 20.
