Well, friends, it's that time of year again, our big "Durham Central Fair," with all the trimmings, rides, animals, music, the sweet smells of cooking, and lots to sec and do! A lot of noise at our end of town, this past week, as St. Saviour's Church is showing off a brand new roof. Our sympathy to a former former friend and neighbour, Mrs. Dorothy Bowins, Lindsay, whose husband Mervin passed away Friday September 4, his brother Albert passed away a week ago. Many in Orono will remember Lome Bowins, a long time butcher at Orono I.G.A., a brother. Mr. Paul Tamblyn, Rockwood, was last Thursday visitor with his mother, Mrs.' Mary Tamblyn, Mill St. Well, at least our Orono Public School is open, but some high schools are on strike. Here's hoping for a quick settlement! Mrs. Sandra Haslam and her mother Mrs. Jenny Bowins attended the funeral funeral on Sunday of the late Mervin Bowins in Lindsay. Larry and Barbara Spires were in Goderich recently to attend the International Shuffleboard Association Tournament. Teams came from Brazil, Japan, Australia, the U.S.A. and Canada. Canada had a men's and ladies' team entered with 12 on each team. Both Canadian teams won. Larry played on the men's team. It was good to be back to "the little church on the hill," Eldad. Elaine Baker was the greeter and Helen Wotten the layrcadcr. Doreen English looked after tlie birthday box and several July, August and September birthdays were recognized. Betty Grant gave the "minute for Missions". Don Taylor sang a lovely solo "Surely Goodness and Mercy" accompanied by Joyce at the piano. Reverend Minim's message was "Seeking God's Kingdom".
