Crime Stoppers Clues Sought In Robbery At Port Perry Variety Store Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police are asking for your assistance assistance in solving a robbery that occurred in Port Perry on July 22nd of this year. On Wednesday evening around 9:45 p.m. a lone male entered the Port Stop Variety Store at 18 Water Street. He approached the counter standing behind a female patron who was being served by the store clerk. Placing his hands on the back of the patron's shoulders, he ordered the clerk to hand over the money and lottery tickets. The store clerk initially thought that the suspect was joking until he observed the culprit carrying carrying a club in his left hand. The store clerk complied, complied, turning over a quantity quantity of cash and scratch- and-win tickets. As the culprit fled the store he ordered the clerk not to call anyone, motioning that he had a gun in his pants. The suspect is described as male white 5 foot 10 inches tall, medium medium build, long dark brown frizzy hair to the shoulders and clean shaven. He was wearing a light blue jean jacket and light blue shirt, grey track pants and sun glasses. Housing Starts Bounce Back in August August housing starts jumped 11.7 per cent to a seasonally seasonally adjusted annual rate of 137,400* units from 123,000 units in July, according according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). In urban centres, single starts rose to 67,500 units from 61,700 the previous month while multiple starts increased to 49,200 units compared to 40,600. "With the end of most trades strikes in Southern Ontario, starts in the province bounced back close to pre- strike levels in August," said Louis Trotticr, Economist at CMHC's Market Analysis Centre. "The catch up in this area is not yet completed as construction was gearing up in early August and inventories inventories arc among their lowest levels in years." Urban construction in Ontario jumped to 48,600 units from 38,900 the previous previous month. Virtually all the gains were recorded in the Toronto area where single- detached starts nearly doubled doubled compared to last month's figures. Multiples also posted healthy gains.
