The steer was exhibited by Marlene Wotten. The Reserve Grand Champion Steer, exhibited by Harvey Graham and family of Blackstock, Ontario, was purchased by Kevin Barker. The other supporters of the auction were Pine Ridge Packers, Port Perry, Ontario; Ullrich Packers; Hampton, Ontario and R.J. White Financial Inc., Bowmanville, Ontario, In years past, the steers in this show were halter broke. This year, they were shown in a pen grouped together. The pen was erected by the committee responsible in about 40 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, the steers were weighed, and the judge went to work. This approach to exhibiting the steers proved to be acceptable to both sellers and buyers. Kids on the Block - Durham Region, is a program which uses life-size puppets to bring an awareness and understanding to local children children on special issues around disabilities, safety and social concerns. Individuals interested in becoming volunteers must be mature, able to memorize a short script fairly easily, work well as a team member, and must be available weekly for performances within Durham Region.
