Sadie Rae Bulger will receive $ 100 16-year-old Sadie Rae Bulger, of Courtice, earned one of 18 coveted spots on the 1999 Ringette Team Ontario. Try-outs in July attracted 400 ringette players from around the province. Bulger has been playing playing since she was seven and has played in numerous numerous provincial championships. championships. In April she was asked to play with the Junior AA Gloucester Devils which look gold for Ontario at the Canadian Ringette Championship. In September, Council received a request for financial support from Bulger to help defray travelling travelling cost to gel to Team Ontario practice dales and training tournaments around the province. Head coach Glen Gaudel says the rough cost for each player to play is around $6,000. Sponsors who contribute contribute $100 will be recognized recognized in the tournament guide. Councillor Jane Rowe spoke in favor of lending support to to help Bulger compete at this "excellent event." IN BRIEF Winery Talent Show Includes Elvis Impersonators Clarington's Big Brothers organization will be the big winners of a barbecue and, talent showcase being held at Archibald Orchards and Estate Winery this Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to four p.m. The line-up includes The Gracelincrs, a team of line- dancing Elvis impersonators that has performed across Canada and the United Stales. The Gracelincrs will be on stage at one p.m. Also in the line-up are Uncle Moe and the Down on the Corner Gang. There will be story-telling, square- dancers and line-dancers. There will be games and prizes for the kids, including a fish-pond, sponge toss, basketball basketball toss and more. In addition, Archibald Orchards will be offering their regular attractions such as a straw maze, farm animals and wagon rides. Museum Seeks Friends ' The Finance/Fund-raising Committee of the Clarke Museum and Archives is looking for volunteers to form a "Friends of the Clarke Museum and Archives" group. The friends will be self-governing and will work with the curator to further the museum's fund-raising efforts. Classic Cars Join Newcastle Festival On Saturday, October 3rd, Newcastle Village hosts its annual Fall Festival. And the second annual Classic and Antique Car Show, with many participants from local communities, will be a part of the event. The Clarington East Food Bank will receive proceeds from the show. Cars will be admitted to the show at a price of $10 per vehicle. Judging takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with prizes for each vehicle. Scholarships Awarded The Auxiliary of the Oshawa General Hospital has presented scholarships to five local students. They include: Melanie Jordan, Linna Tam, Roain Bayat, Theresa Hale and Vanessa Wright. Each of the recipients of an Adelaide McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship is presently attending a Canadian university and studying nursing, occupational therapy or physiotherapy. Gallery Receives Masterpiece The painting "Moving Up Under Starter's Orders, October Meeting Newmarket," has been presented to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery by Windfickls Farm. The presentation took place at a reception Thursday, September 24. This painting, by Sir Allred Munnings (1878-1959), was considered by the artist to be his finest work. Munnings is regarded as Britain's most well-known painter of horses. It was purchased by the late industrialist, E.R Taylor, owner of Windficlds Farm.
