While a number of team players were racing from hockey tryouts in Bowmanville to the site of the soccer match in Thornhill, a short-handed squad of seven Mason Windows players took to the field. Playing for time, in a defensive shell, the out numbered 86'ers actually came close to opening the score. But because their numbers were spread so thin, Thornhill would eventually score the game's first goal. Shortly after this, the reinforcements reinforcements arrived. With eleven players now on the field, but not in their more comfortable comfortable positions, a defensive defensive error would allow Thornhill to score a second goal. Finally, a more organized organized Darlington side began to create some excellent scoring opportunities. opportunities. One of these chances turned into an out- standing goal by Jeff Bouma, for his team's first goal. Moments later, as Kyle Myschowoda broke through the opponent's defence, he was dragged down inside the Thornhill penalty area. Choosing to take his own shot, Kyle calmly placed the ball past the Thornhill keeper for the tying goal.
