Area environmental groups including Friends of the Second Marsh and the Durham Land Stewardship Council organized the event which featured displays and presentations presentations about private land stewardship activities in the Farewell, Black and Harmony Creek Watersheds. . The WHF evolved from a project called the Wetland Habitat Agreement. During the project, 5,000 landowners in Southern Ontario were contacted. Of those, 1,000 landowners agreed to "protect wetlands from one end of Southern Ontario to another," explained Barker. "About 75 or 80 percent of wetlands in Ontario are owned by private landowners," he added. In some cases at the open house, organizations provided information on how to receive funding from various government agencies to help do the necessary work to protect the environment. Perry Sisson, of CLOCA, said his organization organization provides people with experts in a number of fields. "They're there to serve you and provide services to link you up with the right people to carry out. the work, or tell you how to carry it out yourself," explained Sisson. School Board to Consider $247 Million Budget The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board's Budget Committee is recommending recommending a balanced budget budget for this year of $246,998,619.
