The entire membership membership enjoyed a unique event with a Hallowe'en theme. Another exceptional meeting will occur on November 10, 1998 when our guest speaker Ross MacKay D.T.M. will highlight our 11th Anniversary events. Ross MacKay is a warm, entertaining entertaining and inspiring speaker. Whether he is challenging your intellect or touching your heart, he will always be tickling your funny bone. Grand Opening Second Chance Pre-Owned Fashions held its grand opening last Wednesday. The store, located on King Street in Bowmanville, near the Royal Canadian Legion, is run by Bethesda House, a shelter, support and advocacy group for abused women. The shop carries a vast array of clothing and other items for women, children and men. All items arc donated, and profits go to Bethesda House. The store is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Church Hosts Successful Hallowe'en Fun Night by Betty Wright The UCW was held on Wednesday the 21st. The Enniskillen U.C.W. held a very successful bake sale on Thursday at the Bowmanvillc Mall. The Tyrone U.C.W. and Long Sault Club 50 are holding a Penny Sale, craft and bake table on November 4th at the Tyrone Orange Lodge Hall, it opens at 12:30 p.m. The Youth Group will meet on Thursday, November 5th and we're going to Wheelies. Meet in the Enniskillen Church parking lot at 6:00 p.m.and be sure to bring a toonie. We will be back at the church for 9:00 p.m. On Sunday we will be having our Remembrance Day services. A good time was had by all. We ate well, played well, laughed well. All the ingredients for a good time. Enniskillen 4-H The first and second meetings of' the Enniskillen 4-H group "When Nature Calls" were held September 26th, 1998 at the Enniskillen Church portable. The morning was spent having our election of officers: elected officers are as follows: Pres. Nicole Avery, Vice-Pres.: Erica Henderson and Secretary/Press Reporter Emily Van Eyk. We also went on two hikes, one a scavenger hunt and two cleaning up our neighbourhood. neighbourhood. We learned about reading maps and some exercises to do before taking taking a hike. We all had fun and enjoyed the morning. The next 4 meetings will be held October 3rd, 1998 at the home of Blair and Marilyn Van Eyk. The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th meetings of the Enniskillen 4-H group "When Nature Calls" were held October 3rd, 1998 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Van Eyk. The day began at 9:00 a.m. with a 6 km. hike through the neighbouring woods, guided by Blair Van Eyk. We all enjoyed our homemade trail mix along the way. At the end of our hike we cooked our lunch over the bonfire and enjoyed s'mores. The meeting was opened by our president Nicole Avery, with the 4-H pledge. Our Secretary/Press Reporter Emily Van Eyk read the minutes from the last meeting and we all answered the four roll calls. We then played games from our club books. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m. The day was enjoyed by all and we all learned new things. Well here wc arc in November and still sunny but cool. It's sure been a great summer and fall. But wc sure do need rain, as gardens arc going to bed, rather dry, which is not a good sign! A goodly crowd in attendance at the monthly dinner and meeting of "Community Care" held Wednesday, October 28 in main hall of Orono United Church. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner of cscal- loped potatoes, ham, vegetables vegetables and salads. A gracious thank you to the ladies for supplying such a delicious dinner. Our entertainment for the afternoon was a lady from Whitby on the subject of "Safety in the Home". Congratulations to Orono Beavers and Cubs, on an extra large enrollment enrollment this term! On October 26 and 27, the local group held a very successful "Hallowe'en Masquerade", in downstairs downstairs of Orono United Church. This was well attended and we send thanks to Orono United Church board for allowing us this successful fundraising fundraising event. A special Euchre Tournament will be held November 7, Saturday in Orono Town Hall at 2 p.m. Join this special event and enjoy the afternoon! Have just finished the delightful Clarington Country Cookbook, published published in the Clarington Independent. Really enjoyed the various recipes and will surely give some a whirl ! Weekend guests at the Challices were daughters Deanna Harmer Oshawa, Denise and Glenn and family, Peterborough. Hallowe'en passed very quietly in our village Saturday evening. There were fewer than usual "little" "little" people and mostly with their parents. With the earlier parties, for Cubs and Beavers and a parly in the town hall, it seemed to keep the town very quiet. Also wc had something new, courtesy of Rogers Cable, with their "Pumpkin Patrol". The 4T Club (Station St.) are planning a big night for November 19, with special entertainment. Mrs. Jones from the Salvation Army, Bowmanville, will also accept our Christmas donations for hampers.
