Confusion Over Tax Legislation Local politicians arc concerned that provincial representatives do not understand their government's government's tax legislation. Clarington Councillor John Mutton told council Monday night that the Region has been flooded with calls from people trying trying to understand the new legislation that will cap tax increases for commercial and industrial properties. "A lot of concern has been brought to the Finance and Administration (committee) (committee) at the Region," he said. "There seems to be a lot of misinformation coming from some of the MPPs in the Durham Region. What we're going to do now is make sure all Durham MPPs have copies of our diagnostic reports on the issue so they can understand their own legislation." The current council has not taken a position on the issue, but Highway 407 is supported in the Region's Official Plan.
