1 4 Page 2 The Clarington/Courlicc Independent, Bowmanvillc, Saturday, November 14, 1998 School Board Opts for Managed Health Care The District School Board received for information a report from benefits consultants consultants Buffett Taylor last week. Company representatives Rob Morion and Edward Buffett outlined the services to be provided by Buffett Taylor at a school board meeting Nov. 5. They estimated the Kawarlha Pine Ridge School Board will save about $6.2 million in the coming five years in employee benefit costs, under the contract reached with Buffett Taylor. The company focuses on workplace wellness programs with a view to helping employees and their families stay healthy and prevent illness. The consultants noted that, although their fee was higher than another bidders, the fee covers four other services provided, not simply consulting. Further, their lee is paid directly by the insurer, not the Board. The Board saves money overall with the contract, as the premiums it pays to the insurer arc reduced. Most of the savings come from managed health care and through the preventive approaches in the wellness program. Managed health care, they said, guarantees the quality of health care provided to employees. Remembering the Battle Students in Grade 7 at Wavcrlcy Public School put on a play based on a Bowmanvillc family's experiences during World War One. Tree of Hope Will Shine Downtown this Christmas The Christmas season is a difficult time for families who have experienced experienced a loss, whether it is recent or in the past. With the holidays comes time to reflect on family and those who are no longer with us. The tree on Temperance St., by the Bank of Montreal in Bowmanvillc, will be used again this year to create this unique memorial. The Rotary Club of Bowmanvillc proposes a "Tree of Hope" that would remain lit through the holiday season from December 4th to January 1st. The tree has been lit with white lights, but this year a light may be purchased by a donation to a local charity of your choice in memory of a loved one. For each donation one white light "will be replaced with a- blue one. Each individual individual blue light will symbolize symbolize the life of a loved one who has passed away. 1997 marked the first year of the Tree of Hope, and over $2,200 was donated to 16 charities including the Memorial Hospital and Community Care. Individual donations ranged from $5 to $200. After the closing date for accepting donations for the individual lights, the tree would then have all the blue lights added. At a special ceremony on the evening of December 4th in conjunction conjunction with the B.I.A. Christmas' Moonlight Magic the tree would be lit and remain lit until January 1st, 1999 thus enabling people to remember their loved ones during the holiday season. The campaign will start on November 7th and end December 7th. The community will be able to donate a light on the tree by filling out a form. Information that would be needed for the forms would be: Name of the deceased, donor's name, charity .donated to,-amount of donation.
