November 14. 191)8 Lange Peewees Win Competition Against Oshawa The Clarington Toros Lange's Foto Pccwee "A's" managed a win and a loss last week. In one game, Oshawa dominated the Toros the first two periods and lead by two. Goalie Michael Szeremct had made some great saves. Andy Chamberlain managed to narrow the lead after some nice three-way passing from Michael Oliver and Josh Jewell. Oshawa scored again early in the third, but the Toros picked up the pace. Jason Hicks fired in Jesse Bradburn's pass from behind the net. Jeremy Farr assisted. Oshawa prevailed 4-2. Oliver fired in Hicks' rebound on a powerplay to open the scoring against the Ajax Knights. Jewell passed to Bradburn to put the Toros up by two. Jason Morrison assisted. Ajax came back early in the second with one. During the fivc-on-threc advantage, Hicks passed over to Oliver who one-timed it home. The Toros fought off two five-on-lhrce advantages with great defensive play by Zach Vine, Farr, Drew Sharp, Paul Reid and Justin Ross and goalie Ryan Hibbard for a 3-1 victory. The lands are owned by the Municipality of Clarington and the Ministry of Natural Resources. An Environmental Management Plan has been prepared which provides recommendations to protect and enhance the site's natural features and allows for some passive recreational uses. PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE A Public Information Centre will take place to introduce residents to the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area. Members from the community and Staff from the Clarington Planning & Development Department will be available to provide you with information on the Nature Area. The Committee will be responsible for the following: • Implementing the recommendations in the Samuel Wilmot Nature Area Environmental Management Plan; • Raising public awareness; • Encouraging volunteerism to undertake capital projects and educational activities; • Fund-raising; and • Monitoring changes to the ecosystem. The Committee shall be comprised of (12) twelve volunteers; eight from the community at large and three (3) from public agencies. CS-Ind. 7420 » MUNICIPALITY OF jf jlotf'inqton Shut-Out Victory for Shoppers Drug Mart Shoppers Drug Mart Minor Tyke Hockey team faced McDonalds in regular league play at Orono Arena and recorded their first shut-out of the season. In the first period Stefan Diachenko and Jake Robinson each recorded a goal with assists going to Dylan Melmcr and Rory Craddock. The second period saw goalie Kirk Campbell make some outstanding saves to keep McDonald's off the scoreboard. Diachenko popped in 3 more goals in the third period and Craddock recorded his first goal of the season with assists awarded to Jake Robinson, Kyle Sullivan and Kenny Robertson. Justin Sarginson and Eric Fegan played well on defence while Mathew Smith, Juliana Conte, Brady Richards and Conner Allen showed great team work in moving the puck up the ice. Rough Road for Selects O.M.H.A. hockey action. The first game of November saw a resounding resounding 6-l defeat of the Pickering Panthers at the hands of the Toros. Ryan Cross opened the scoring for the home side in the first period when his high shot beat the Panther goalie. Andrew Neal received, an assist on the play. The Panthers and the Preston Toros traded goals in the second period. Geoff Powell sent Matt Meraw into the clear and Meraw deposited the puck just under the crossbar for the Toros' goal. Clarington exploded with four goals in the third period to ice the win. Ryan Zavitz with help from Amber Ellis, Cross and Meraw, each with their second goals of the game and Brandon Doblc were the Toros' goal-getters. Ryan Gratlo played a strong game between the pipes. On November 6, the Preston Toros took on the Cobourg Cougars in Cobourg where the Movers came away with a 4-0 shutout win. Tyler Young led the way for the Toros with two goals and an assist. Ryan Zavitz and Andrew Neal scored singles. singles. Meraw, Pat Dwyer and Stephen Thomas also received assists. Mike Harris earned the shutout making key saves when called upon. Ian Knox, Lucas Beech, Kyle Perry, Graeme Kalujundic, Justin Lidston and Pat Dwyer played solidly on defence. Although it was a very physical match, the Toros played with great disci pline, completing the game without a penally. The next day, the Preston Toros continued their winning way with another road win, defeating defeating the Ajax Knights 4-2. Lincmates Powell, Ellis and Meraw combined to lead the Clarington attack. Powell scored the hat-trick while Ellis chipped in with two assists and Meraw added one assist. Zavitz notched the other Toro marker to continue his three-game goal-scoring streak. Tyler Young, Stephen Thomas and Knox also earned assists. Again, the Toros had good goal- tending from Gratto. The Preston the Movers Toros next sec action in the Dundas Vallcytown Minor Rep Tournament November 13-15. The road has not been kind to CRHL Pcewce Selects as they lost in Unionville 5-1 and 8-3 in Keswick. The Unionville game was an entertaining game for the spectators despite the loss. Jason Emond scored the only goal unassisted. unassisted. In Keswick, the boys started with a strong effort and were rewarded with a two goal lead half-way through the second period. The first goal was scored by Jordan Thompson when he slipped the puck under the goalie's pad. Scott Parsons and Robb Gurr tallied assists. Then, a nifty pass play from Emond to Eric Gray to Ian Watt, who went high on the goalie, put Clarington in front 2-0. In the dying minutes of the second period, Keswick scored four unanswered goals to pull ahead 4-2, but with eleven seconds left, Gray scored to draw Clarington within one goal. Clarington outshot Keswick in the third period period 10 to 9, but Clarington could not get the puck in the net on a number of good scoring opportunities, opportunities, while Keswick took advantage of all their opportunities and scored four more goals to make a final score 8-3. In exhibition action, the Selects lost to Stouffville 3-2 despite outshooting them 28 to 13. Stouffville scored in each period, while Clarington scored both goals in the third period. Again the selects had a number of glorious scoring opportunities but were thwarted by a tough Stouffville goalie.
