The Selects first travelled travelled to Brooklin, looking to tame the Whitby Wildcats. Clarington broke the scoreless draw midway through the second second as Brandon Couto took a pass from Matthew Wright and stepped inside the faceoff circle firing a low drive that found - its mark just inside the far post. Whitby responded with two quick goals of their own and carried a 2-1 lead into the final frame. Couto evened the affair at 2-2, scoring his second of the night on a great individual individual effort. Aaron Pierce put Clarington ahead for good as his wrist shot from the slot off of a Darren Ayrc feed, beat the Whitby goaltcnder cleanly. Next up for the Selects, would be a trip to Richmond Hill. The hosts opened up the scoring midway through the second second period and added two more markers in the third cn route to a 3-0 final. The outcome would have been much closer had Clarington not had two goals called back on a pair of questionable calls. Their third straight road game, saw the Novices travel to Markham. Clarington came out firing on all cylinders, dominating dominating play from the opening whistle. Their hard work and determined effort resulted in three goals in each of the three periods as they cruised to a 9-0 win. Leading the offensive barrage were Matthew Wright and Joey Janveaux. Wright led all snipers with four goals and two assists, while playmaking center Janveaux dished out five assists. Allysha Chapman, Brandon Couto, and Nick Lombardo each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Aaron Kolodzicjczak and Jeffrey Walsh rounded out the scoring with Aaron Pierce picking up an assist. Despite the onesided onesided score, Markham had many great scoring opportunities opportunities but were unable to put the puck past goalie Matt Coe. He came up with a number of spectacular spectacular saves in preserving his first shutout of the season. Webco Crane and Hoist Drops Game to Whitby On Friday, November 20, the Clarington Major Atom "A" team, sponsored by Webco Crane and Hoist, hosted the Whitby Wildcats, the only team to have defeated the Toros in league play this season. The boys gave a very spirited effort, but found themselves on the short end of a 5-3 score. The Toros fought the Wildcats to a scoreless first period, but unfortunately Canadian Statesman Toros Hold on for 3-2 Victory National Sports Advances to Finals of Cobourg Tourney The Canadian " Statesman Major Novice Toros headed up the 404 to meet the Aurora Tigers November 17. The Toros jumped to a quick lead with a perfect passing play from Brandon Ernst to Luke Pither to a wide open Dan McCarthy in the slot. David Miller and Pither then combined to set up Brandon Castellan to stake the Toros to a 2-0 lead before the period ended. Midway through the second, Callieu and Brown worked together to get the puck out of their end up to a streaking Castellan for his second of the night. In game one, National Sports defeated East Gwillimbury 5-0, with Chris Wood getting the shutout. Jesse Millson led the Toros with two goals while Stuart King, Marc Bonin and Daren Kelly had singles. Marc also had two assists and their line played a strong game and had seven points among them. Cobourg defeated National Sports 3-1 in the second game. Derek McGrath scored for National Sports on a pass from Mike Kari. Mike Kari led National Sports with two goals while Marc Bonin and Chris McDaniel got singles. This victory put National Sports into the semi-finals on Sunday against Oshawa. The Oshawa game was rough and penalty-filled. Chris Wood recorded shutout number three of the tournament as National Sports defeated Oshawa 2- 0 to advance to the Championship game. Chris McDaniel scored on a pass from Mark Lemieux ■ and Joey Castellano scored unassisted to make it 2-0. The victory put National Sports into the championship championship game against Cobourg. In the Championship game, National Sports lost in overtime to Cobourg 3- 2. Joey Castellano from Mark Lemieux and Jamie Bryant from Daren Kelly handled the scoring. luck was not with them, as Whitby scored their first goal on a deflection that went in off a Toro player. This seemed to rattle the boys, and they lost their focus. Whitby then took advantage of the Toros lack of discipline and took a 3-1 lead. However, with veteran goalie Robbie Goddard holding the fort in net, the Toros seemed to come to life in the third period, as they closed the gap to 3-2 and seemed to have the momentum, when another breakdown in discipline gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead. The Toros gave it a great effort in the final minutes of the third period, but the final score saw Whitby come away 5-3 victors. Even though the Toros saw this game get away from them, the boys now know that they can play with the league leading Wildcats, and that to win, .they must maintain their focus and discipline for three full periods. The line of Kurds Salway, Tyler Beers and Corey Bradbum once again led the Toro attack, as Salway netted a pair of goals, Tyler Beers picked up two assists, Bradbum added a single assist, and Trevor Graham also had an assist. Brad Farrow rounded out the Bulls scoring with an assist to Nathan Murray, who played a very strong two-way game, showing great hustle in both ends of the ice. Tyler Ferguson, Kurtis Salway and Ryan Webb did an excellent job killing off several penalties. Robbie Goddard had an excellent game in goal for Clarington, as he faced a battery of shots throughout the game, during several shorthanded situations. Courtice Health Loses Close Battle by 3-2 To Rotary Club On Saturday, November 21, the Courtice Health Centre hockey team played against Rotary Club at Bowmanville arena. Courtice Health came out- strong and played a solid game, losing a tight battle by a score of 3-2. The Courtice Health team was led by a great game on defence from Daniel Bailey.
