The Claringlon/Courticc Independent, Bowmanvillc, Saturday, Novcmmbcr 28, 1998 Pace 5 Harmac Transportation Battles Whitby After a late start this season, the Clarington Eagles Major Tykes showed tremendous promise and commendable effort in their most recent games against Whitby and Pickering. The Eagles felt the competition when faced with the Whitby team on November 14, aware that Whitby was 4 and 0, never having won by less than five goals in a game. The Eagles' Brett Brown scored on a rush in the first period period assisted by Dylan McMahon and Danny Bryan. In the second second period, Whitby tied the game, leaving Clarington with a short lived challenge after Clarington took the lead with a goal by Dylan McMahon assisted by Richard Braybrook. Whitby then scored with 1:06 remaining in the game. The Eagles left the arena proud to have ended Whitby's winning streak. Great goaltending was displayed by Sant Andrews and Kevin Mitchell, not to mention great work on the part of Brett Brown, Danny Bryan, Keith Collerman, Dylan Pitchforth and Patrick Stockwell. The Eagles weren't prepared to give up on November 16, when they met the Pickering Select team. With 18 games played, they sit with 15 wins, 2 losses and a tic. Their strength comes from having a player off each line leading the team in scoring. Matt Allen leads followed closely by Paul Garristo, Josh Rutledge and Craig Barraball only a point back. Chris Poulson has the team lead in goals scored despite missing seven games. This past weekend they played in Kitchener and dominated dominated all three games. Dylan Cull recorded a shutout against Georgetown in game one. Justin Roussey, Barraball, Allen and Nick Boyd scored the goals. The second game had Trevor Baker and Nick Boyd score a pair of goals and Rutledge a single to lead the team to a 5- 3 win over London. Craig Sykes recorded the win in net. In a game to determine advancing to the semi-finals, the Ryder Logistics completely completely dominated Woodstock only to lose to a hot goal- tender. Adam Bowen had the lone Toro goal. MikeTrotman played a strong game though suffering from a sore knee. During tournament play, Rob Campbell, Erie Downey, Zack Ibbotson and Colin Organ were instrumental in keeping the puck clear of the net and the other team from getting any rebounds. Ryan Smith played both forward and defence and contributed with a pair of assists.
