On November 9, against Oshawa, the Toros grabbed an early lead on a goal by Cory Bruinsma assisted by Trevor Richtler. Before the end of the first period, Oshawa scored to lie the game and then scored the only goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. The Toros tied the game early in the third period on a goal by Two-Out-of-Three for National Sports National Sports won two out of three this week, losing to Cobourg and defeating Pickering and Oshawa. In the Cobourg game, the team to beat, National Sports lost 3-2. The strong goaltending of Chris Wood kept the game close. Mike Kari and Mark Lemieux scored for the Toros, with an assist going to Chris McDaniel on Mark's goal. Playing three games in four nights saw National Sports at home to Pickering. In a sloppily played game the Toros held on to win 4-3. Adam Hawke played well in goal and faced 27 shots. Leading the scoring for National Sports was Chris McDaniel with two goals, while Darren Kelly and Mark Bonin had singles. Mark Bonin played well again. Our third game was a 10-0 shutout victory over the Lindsay Muskies. The line of Mark Lemieux, Chris McDaniel and Mark Bonin never played together as a unit before, but they showed what smart passing and finding the open man can do for you. The line had a 16 point game! Mark Bonin led the trio with two goals and four assists. . Mark Lemieux chipped in with a hat trick and two assists. Chris McDaniel, who centered centered the line, had five assists. Darren Kelly scored two goals and defenceman Mike Tribou had two goals. Derek McGrath played a smart game controlling the puck behind the opposition net. At the end of the game, nobody worked hard to get open so he popped in a wrap around. That completed completed the scoring for National Sports. Pete Quon had three assists this week. Then Derrick Crossey made an excellent pass to a breaking breaking Kyle Myschowoda to send him away on a one on one. Kyle skated around the lone defender and made a nice move on the goaltendcr to score the go ahead goal. Tyler Castellan scored an insurance goal assisted by Jeff Perron and John DeMille as the team skated to a 4-2 victory. On November 13, the Toros were out to avenge a previous loss to the team from Whitby. After a scoreless first period the Toros dominated the second second period scoring three straight goals. Jeff Perron started things off with a goal at the :54 second mark assisted by Tyler Castellan and Adam Hobb. Then, Alex Andringa found the top right hand corner of the net to make it 2-0 after taking a pass from Matt Savoie. Jeff Perron, after stealing the puck at the Whitby blue- fine, went in alone to score his second of the game unassisted. Whitby's efforts at a comeback were thwarted by the steady goaltending of Kevin Kirkwood who stopped all but one of the Whitby shots and led his team to a 3-1 victory. On November 22, the Toros came up against the first place team from Cobourg. The Cobourg team hemmed the Toros in its own end for two periods. periods. However, due to the strong goaltcnding of Gordon Tapp, the Cougars had only two goals to show for their efforts. The Toros started to mount a comeback comeback late in the second period as Tyler Castellan scored with 35 seconds left on a perfect feed from Cory Bruinsma. Also assisting on the play was Derrick Crossey. The Toros played a much stronger third period but could not score the equalizer. equalizer. Strong Third Period Lifts Ayren Links Major Tykes The Ayren Links Golf Club Major Tykes continued their exciting season with two more games this past week. First, playing against a tough Durham T.V. squad last Saturday morning, the Ayren Links team quickly fell behind 1-0 before the game was two minutes old. Always the slow starters, the team took about ten minutes before they were able to kick in to high gear. Two quick goals, one each from Kyle Maclean and Mark Keenan, pulled Ayren Links into a 2-2 tie before the end of the first period. period. The second period continued to be end-to-end and Mark Keenan added his second goal of the game to go with a single by Mark Hilker to knot the game at 4-4 through two periods. The Ayren Links team took over in the third as Travis Stauffer closed the door in net and Mark Kennan and Mark Hilker were able to complete their hat tricks to finish the game off with a 7-4 victory for Ayren Links Golf Club. Assists in the game went to Andrew Somerville, Beth Blakely (2), Amber Banks, Casey Elliot, Michael Rogers and Greg Pogue. Strong defensive games were played by Billy Scott, Tylor Keenan, Kyle Maclean and Thomas Stone. The following Saturday, the team once again got off to a slow start as they faced the Power Workers in Darlington. Once again Ayren Links fell behind early as Travis Stauffer faced three breakaways on the first shift before finally being beaten in the top comer by Riley Chapman to fall behind 1-0. Unfortunately, this time the kids were not able to fight back and continued to fall further further behind as Chapman fired six goals to pace the Power Workers to an 8-1 victory.
