The Clarington/Courticc Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, December 12, 1998 Page 11 BHS Valedictory Address Editor's Note: Bowmanville High School Valedictorian Bradley MacMaster opted for a different different kind of valedictory address at the graduation program held in October at BHS. Unfortunately, space does not permit a complete re-print of the speech. However, it included included a touching tribute to teachers and staff of BHS and to parents and friends. It also recalled some highlights highlights from the students' years at the school. The following is the conclusion to this year's valedictory address at BHS. But graduates, to find your success, go right to the source, Who am I speaking of - why it's you of course! If it wasn't for your hard work, grit and determination, determination, You wouldn't be here at your own graduation! You didn't give up, under the pressure didn't crack, So turn around and give yourselves a pat on the back! And even though it might be hard for you to believe it, Everyone's here to honor your great achieve ments! You've made it this far, so as hard as life seems, If you keep up this hard work, you'll fulfill all your dreams! You can do what you want to - set your goals high, And don't ever sit back to let life pass you by! And when times arc tough, and things become stressful, Never give up hope, and there's no doubt you'll be successful. Now I'm almost finished, finished, but before I am through, I'd like to do one more thing - read a quick quote to you. And if you follow these words, there's no way you can lose, So here is the passage, from my favorite author, Dr. Suess: 'Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself Any direction you choose You're on your own. And you know what you know And YOU arc the guy who'll decide where to go. OH! THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! You'll be on your way up! You'll be seeing great sights! You'll join the high fliers Who soar to high heights. You won't lag behinef, because you'll have the speed. You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon lake the lead. Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest. Oh, the places you'll go! You'll get mixed up, of course. As you already know- You'll get mixed up With many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact. And remember that Life's A Great Balancing Act! Just never forget to be dexterous and deft, And never mix up your right foot with your left. And will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed). KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!! 50.. . Be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray Or Mordecai. Ali Van Allen O'Shea, You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting waiting 50.. .get on your way!!' And now I am finished...oh finished...oh wait, no, not quitc- Good luck in the future, grads, Thank-you and Good-night!
