The Soiina W.l. held their Christmas ' meeting December 9th at 6:30 p.m in Soiina Hall. The husbands husbands and other guests were welcomed and Grace was sung. Approximately 50 people people sat down at Christmas decorated tables to enjoy the tasty meal prepared by the Village Group. President Jean Taylor had a short business meeting meeting and the F.W.I.O. draws while some of us were in the kitchen helping the Village Group clean up the dishes. I have no business to report. Everyone adjourned to the main hall for the entertainment. entertainment. Lois Ycllowlecs presided for the opening, expressing some "Christmas Thoughts". We then found out who our 1998 "Secret Pal" had been with the distribution of the Christmas gifts. The guests also received a gift from Santa's helpers Loraine Knox and Bernice Watson. Lois Ycllowlecs led in a contest of filling in the missing parts of several Christmas songs accompanied accompanied by Joyce Taylor at the piano. All took part in the contest of "baking terms" prepared by Bernice Watson. Joyce Taylor presented presented an interesting contest contest using all our W.l. members members names for the answers. Our groups were then asked to act out "Song Titles" and we joined in singing the songs, this was given by Loraine Knox and Margaret Ford. Our groups had a "parcel passing" contest contest to be unwrapped of a layer of paper when the music stopped. The person removing the last layer was the winner. The #1 group had a lot going for them, because their parcel only had one layer of wrapping. Margaret Ford conducted this contest. President Jean Taylor expressed thanks to the Village Group for all their work of a tasty supper and a great fun evening together, and wished all the Season's greetings. The last entertainment of the evening was Doris Flett attired in nitc cap, nighty and slippers reading "The Night Before Christmas". Wesley Hills, on behalf of the guests, expressed thanks for the lovely Christmas party, Alma Lmumahl R.R. #8, Newcastle and Jennifer Schroter, R.R. #1, Dunsford, are local AALP participants. Particularly impressed with the quality of the speakers speakers during the session was Mr. Corwin Holtz, Class 7 LEAD participant, who commented "Our class will be meeting in Washington D.C. in Febmary and I question if we will have access to the same level of political power during the American session. The opportunity opportunity to have Liberal (MP Murray Calder) and Reform (MP David Chatters) members members present their personal perspective on how government government functions was excellent. I doubt if we will have the same opportunity in Washington between a Republican and Democrat senator." Included on the three-day agenda were presentations by the Honourable Nobel Villeneuve, Minister, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Bernard Bonin, Senior Deputy Governor, Bank of Canada; and Robert Marleau, Clerk of the House of Commons. An evening session, held in Hull, Quebec, with Bloc MP Daniel Turp discussing the separatist movement proved to be quite emotional, particularly for the Ontairo AALP representatives. representatives. The AALP and LEAD programs arc based on a two- year training session providing providing future leaders in all areas of the agri-food system the necessary skills and knowledge knowledge to become effective leaders. fÆ At\f® 104 King St. E, Bowmanville mKcvtIHv ® jtW*- cornerstone realty ltd., realtor Call Linda McLennan* Associate Broker 623-6000 CENTURY ON 1/3 ACRE LOT Right in Bowmanvillel 3000 square foot gracious gracious home with high ceilings, spacious principal principal rooms, hardwood floors and wide baseboards. baseboards. 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, family and laundry rooms upstairs. $259,000.
