THE SPINAL COLUMN When was the last time you suffered from a headache/ For many, it's a frequent occurrence that causes us to seek relief in the aspirin bottle. Despite the recognition that the medication is only covering up. the symptom, the cycle repeats itself largely because there's no apparent alternative to this approach. Many things can cause headache pain: strong smells, intense lights, sinus problems, high blood pressure, ear, eye or vision conditions, fevers, infections, tumors, seizures, alcoholic drink, accidents and many other conditions. You can even get a headache from just worrying about all of the different things that cause them and that leads us to the most common headache of all: the muscle tension, worry or "stress" headache that makes up 90% of all headaches. Contrary to common thought, the pain from headaches does not come from the brain. The brain can feel no sensation at all. It is those pain sensitive structures like veins, arteries, membrane and cranial nerves that are often responsible. When these structures are stretched, pulled, compressed, irritated or infected, headaches often result. Headache treatment depends on what caused the headache. In the vast majority of cases, headache symptoms are related to the spine. The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) reported in January 1992 that neck injuries like whiplash or falls were the most important factor in the cause of headache and should be suspected in every non-specific case of headache. The JMPT in 1994 has reported that many migraine sufferers, both adult and child have found significant relief from their headache pain under chiropractic care. If you suffer from headaches, a chiropractic spinal checkup checkup is one of the best things you can do. Chiropractic's safe, gentle, drugless methods have helped millions of headache sufferers over the years. Yet chiropractic does not claim to be a headache treatment and cure - It has a different approach to health care. Doctors of Chiropractic free your body from the vertebral subluxation complex or VSC, which has the power to destroy your health. It affects millions of us. When freed of subluxations your body works more effectively to use its valued energies to heal itself. For over one hundred years, doctors of chiropractic have observed an intimate relationship between the spine and headaches. Now that you know what the cause of your headaches may be, can you really afford not to have your spine checked/ To letmt more iibunt c/iirojiractic, health «ml wellness, Dr. Herron provides « Tuesday night health talk at Herron Family Chiropractic, 98 King St. W. in Bowmanvillc.
