Ebenezer U.C.W. Group Donates $ 2,300 to Charities The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 23, 1 VUS Section Two On Tuesday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m„ 31 ladies from Ebenezer U.C.W. celebrated the season in the C.E. hall, as we enjoyed a Christmas dinner. dinner. With Eileen Down at the piano, we sang 'Johnny Applcsccd'. Our meal was catered by 'Caterin' Kin', and thoroughly enjoyed. President Olive Munro opened the meeting with a timely story called 'A Christmas Miracle'. Greta announced that the U.C.W. had received $2300.00 lor assisting a local travel agency with a Branson bus trip. The money was divided among St. Vincent's Kitchen, the Honduras Disaster Fund and the Ebenezer Board of Stewards. Margaret Down displayed a spray of holly as she read a Christmas card she had received from Elsie Down several years ago. It was called the 'Legend of the Holly'. Following the reading of 'An Old English Prayer', the offering was gathered and dedicated. We also gave to the Fellowship of the Least Coin and the Native Healing Fund. Eileen led us in a much appreciated carol sing using the 1st verse and chorus of much loved Christmas carols. We always look forward to readings presented by Mildred Muir and she delighted everyone as she gave two selections. The first was called 'Christmas of Old' by Bill Straiten, the second was 'The Negotiations before Christmas' and was a lament of Mrs. Claus because her husband always left her home when lie went to do the joyful work of delivering toys on Christmas Eve. Margaret Down gave a meditation. The closing was 'The Twenty-third Psalm for Busy People' by Toki Miyashina. Bowmanville Toastmasters A festive mood pervaded the December 15, 1998 meeting of Bowmanville Toastmasters.
