Paget, an artist, lives on property which has been ecavated by archeologists looking for remnants of the Tionnontatc. One of his interests is in the stone carvings/sculptures carvings/sculptures produced by the aboriginals. On Sunday, Jan. 11, Paget opened his multi- media works at the Clarington Visual Arts Centre. The exhibition is at the Visual Arts Centre in Soper Creek Park for the remainder of January. The Visual Arts Centre of Clarington is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and installation work by Collingwood artist James Paget, who is a well known figure in Durham Region because of his wonderful life drawing classes. This body of work is a departure for the artist because of its historical referents and its basis in landscape painting. The Tionnontatc (Petun) tribe lived in the Collingwood area until approximately approximately I860, when it was decimated by another tribe. Paget employs representational representational imagery to recall the abo riginal history of the region where lie lives, placing it in conjunction with the geological formations found there. The Visual Arts Centre is open from Tuesday - Saturday 12-4; Thursdays 12-8; and Sundays 1-4 during during the exhibition. The artist was present present at the opening reception to give a brief talk on his work and also conducted conducted a workshop and exhibition tour on January 5. Clarington Woman Pens Her First Novel Working from four a.m. to six a.m. each morning for a full year, a Clarington resident produced her first romantic novel. "It was a more clear, quiet time of the morning," morning," says Marie Parker, in describing her habit of rising rising early to work on the 70-page story that is just off the presses. She wrote in longhand, crafting a story idea whose outline Marie Parker came to her in a flash of inspiration when she woke up one morning. The novel, entitled "All in the Genes" describes the adventure of a 17-ycar-old orphan who earns a scholarship scholarship allowing her a year in Paris, studying fashion design. But the plot thickens thickens . when Hope Harper falls madly in love with a French aristocrat who harbours harbours a deadly secret. Although "All in the Genes" is Parker's first novel, she is no stranger to writing, having produced her first children's stories when her grandchildren were small. Her books include a collection of poetry entitled "Inside Out," and children's books entitled "George's Friend" and "The Gold and Silver Christmas Trees."
