Interest rates are still at historical lows, consumer confidence confidence remains high and with the strongest portfolio of vehicles we have ever had, we expect this to translate into another positive year for General Motors of Canada." Conlin added, "As is the ease throughout the industry, truck sales continued to lead the way but the all-new Buick Century and Buick Regal, the Cadillac Catcra and the Chevrolet Lumina had very good sales this month and we expect passenger car sales to improve with the introduction of the all-new Pontiac Grand sAm, the new Oldsmobilc Alcro and the all-new Cadillac Seville later this year". Residents Alarmed Over 401 Trench Residents of Farrow Avc., east of Newcastle Village, arc still looking for answers after construction began on a trench alongside Highway 401 and not far from their homes. The work is believed to be part of a sewage main to serve a service centre on Highway 401. But, residents George Kelly and Burt Reynolds say they need assurances the digging won't disturb the wells they rely on for water in their homes. Reynolds said the impact on water tables should have been looked at and residents ought to have at least been informed of the construction. "I don't think we're asking for a lot. All we want is something saying it's going to be safe," he said. "I really really feel we have a legitimate beef here," George Kelly said there are three wells on Farrow Rd. that might be affected by the work. On nearby Stevenson Rd„ there arc another 20 homes. Both Kelly and Reynolds are concerned that the municipality seemed unaware of the project. Councillor John Mutton was sympathetic to the residents' residents' problem, adding that there should be a more secure barrier around the hole which is being dug to house a sewage valve chamber at the end of Farrow Rd. "They should be telling people what they're doing," he added. Mutton has raised the matter with MPP John O'Toole, since the work is taking place alongside a provincially- owned highway.
