Chamber Accepting Nominations For 1998 Business Excellence Awards Senator Andrew Thompson has missed yet another appearance in the Senate, but lie'll have one more chance to explain his actions next week. The Kendal area resident resident has appeared in the upper chamber only 12 times since 1990 -- just enough to collect his annual annual $64,000 salary and $10,000 tax-free expense allowance. His appearance before fellow-senators next Wednesday, February 18, would enable him to explain his absences and justify claims that lie is too ill to attend. Senator Thompson failed to appear for the Tuesday, February 10th, silting of the Senate, despite being ordered to do so in December. He has already been kicked out of the Liberal caucus and his office and staff were taken away. His latest absence prompted Alberta Senator Ronald Ghiltcr to suggest Thompson be expelled immediately. But others were unsure of the legality of the Senate voting to fire one of its members. In the end, the Senate decided to order Senator Thompson to appear on February 18th. On Tuesday, sombrero- wearing Reform Party MPs awaited Senator Thompson's arrival with a mariaehi band and burri- tos. Their actions were in response to the fact that the senator now spends much of his time living in Mexico. The Reform party also used the occasion to call for an elected Senate. Andrew .Thompson, a former leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, was appointed to the Senate in 1967. NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING ADOUTYOUR NEW COMMUNITY?
