The Eagles would first lock horns with Slouffvillc, a team that they had never defeated. In the second period, Clarington opened the scoring, as a Brett Chapman pass found Danny Arnott alone in front of the net. Brady Burns followed up a minute later with a goal of his own as he rilled one into the corner, finishing off a heads-up play from Trevor Dwyer. Slouffvillc replied, scoring their first of the game, setting the stage for an exciting third period. The Eagles line of Brady Burns, Matthew Pcdcn, and Trevor Dwyer continued to 11 y , scoring two goals in a 43 second span. The first was by Trevor as he was sent in alone on a breakaway. The second was Brady notching notching his second goal of the game. A shorthanded marker by Slouffvillc temporarily temporarily narrowed the margin margin to 4-2, but seconds later, Justin Bowles completed completed a three-way passing play with lincmatcs Nicholas Diachenko and Josh Sullivan to put the finishing touches on a well deserved 5-2 victory. Player of the game honours honours were presented to Trevor Dwyer. A trip to the 'A' Championship finals would require a victory in the semis over Ennismore. Ennismorc jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, scoring their third goal less than a minute into the second period. Nicholas Diachenko spun around and scored from high in the circle, assists going to Justin Bowles and Josh Sullivan. Ennismorc struck once more before the period ended, restoring their three goal cushion heading into the final frame. The Eagles never let up, and four minutes into the third, Brett Chapman scored. In almost similar fashion, Josh Sullivan scored to make it 4-3. Ennismorc came right back, scoring their fifth of the match. With just over two minutes remaining, Clarington pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker. The move paid off as Brett Chapman scored to make it 5-4. The Eagles came within a whisker of completing completing the comeback, ending in a 5-4 decision in favour of Ennismorc. Kyle Robertson won Player of the game honours honours for the Eagles. Clarington next saw action in an exhibition tilt against the Osliawa Selects. The puck had barely dropped to open the game when Steven Piggoll cashed in on a Brett Chapman pass to stake the Eagles to an early I -0 lead. Osliawa responded with a goal of their own, drawing the game even at 1-1. Before the first period ended, Justin Sladlcr banked in one of his patented sharp angle shots past the Osliawa goalie and the Eagles regained the lead. Early in the third on the power play, Danny Arnott look a Nicholas Diachenko pass and scored. Brady Burns then scored on a Justin Bowles feed for a 4-1 lead. Osliawa scored the final goal in a 4-2 victory for the Eagles. Volleyball Title for Vincent Massey For the third year in a row, the Vincent Massey boys' volleyball team captured the Bowmanvillc Junior School championship with a victory over Lord Elgin in the final. The team went undefeated during the tournament. Team members include, front row, (1-r), Nathan Murray, Trevor Hunter, Brad Griffin, Mike Hossack, Alex Andringa. Back row, (1-r), Mr. Windsor (coach), Ben Hart, Chris Trace, Jordan Gross. Absent were Braden Jcbson, Devon Potter. Holiday Inn Toros Bantams Beat Ajax in Opening Round Harrison Fuels Toros Tied with Whitby in OHMA Playdowns The Clarington Atom #2 girls, sponsored by Stewart's Frozen Foods, had a very hectic schedule this week. Our first game was played January 19, against Clarington Atom #1 Optimists team. Final score of the game was 2-0 for the Stewart's Frozen Food Atom #2 team. The girls were quite evenly matched during the first and second periods, but tilings turned around during the third. The first goal went to Amy Milks, assisted by Ashley Gilbank. The second was an unassisted goal by Danielle Jordan. Kierstcn Allorc, Ashley Gcndron, Jana •Crydcrman and Ashlcigh Parks played an exceptionally strong defensive game. Our second game on Friday night against AAA Photography ended in a 4-1 win for AAA Photography. Stewart's Frozen Food goalie, Aslilcc Beattie played a superb game letting in only four of 25 shots. The only goal for Stewart's came from Amy Milks, assisted by Ashley Gcndron. Square Boy Advances A strong regular season performance (26-2-0) has carried over into the playoffs playoffs for the Newcastle Square Boy Pizza Pccwccs. The Newcastle team has advanced to the second round of the playoffs after eliminating a game squad from Ops in two straight games. The first was a 6-2 victory victory at home on February 4. After two games of the second round of the OMI-IA playdowns, Harrison Fuels are locked up evenly with Whitby. Each team has won one game. In game one, Harrison Fuels defeated Whitby 5-4 after being down in the game early by a 3-1 score. Adam Bowen led the Toros with two goals to start the comeback while Craig Baraball scored two also to sew the game up. Trevor Baker got one goal. The Toros outshot Whitby 30- 18. Game two saw Harrison Fuels get behind again 6-3, but this time they could not quite come all the way back and lost 6-5. Craig Baraball, Sean Leforl (2), Stuart King and Mark Lemieux scored for Harrison Fuels in that order. Adam got two assists and played another strong game on defence. Harrison Fuels outshot Whitby by a 31-20 margin. As the scores have indicated, indicated, both games have been really close. The Holiday Inn Major Bantam Toros opened the 1998 playoffs against Ajax on January 29, in a best- oI-five affair. The first game was a fairly well played contest with the Toros showing their prowess with a 7-4 victory. The second game, on January 31, was very similar and the Toros look a 2-0 game advantage with a 5-2 win. The third game, on Feb. I, was completely different different as the Toros took a 3-1 lead into the third period, but fell victim to penalty trouble. A five minute major opened the door for the Ajax team and they took full advantage, blowing blowing the door wide open as they scored four times during during the major penally. A shorthanded Toro goal tied it briefly, but the. Ajax team stormed right back to score their fourth power play goal of the penalty to take a 5-4 lead. The fourth game of the scries was played February 2, which would be the fourth game in five nights for the squad. The team hustled, stayed out of the penalty box with unnecessary penalties, and the players dug down and put together a good game without two of their better players. When all was said and done, the Holiday Inn had skated to a 5-3 win, and a 3-1 series victory. The goaltending duo of Rob Weir and Brian Harris played well throughout the series and will hopefully continue to do so as the Toros next opponents will be Belleville, who have given the Toros all they could handle during the regular season. Jr. A Eagles Finish Season Against Kingston The Bowmanvillc Eagles will close out the Provincial Jr. A league regular season on Sunday night when they host Kingston at the Recreation Complex.
