She was in her 83rd year, llean is survived by her daughter Patsy of Calgary, and her son Charles of Orono, brothers Andy Widdis of Lindsay and Gordon Widdis of Peterborough. Peterborough. She was predeceased predeceased by her husband John Albert Reid on May 5, 1968, her parents Walter and Lucinda Widdis, her brothers Wilmot Widdis and her sister Louise (Curly) Donoghue. llean married John Albert Reid on May 28, 1938 at Newtonville United Church and spent the first five years of her married life at their farm at Crooked Creek. From there, they moved to the farm at Orono where they raised milk and beef cattle and standardbred race horses. In 1953 Jack and llean cleared the land and built a sales barn on the north end of their farm and held a weekly livestock auction auction there every Thursday evening, llean and her friend, Dorothy Reid, ran the lunch counter at the sales barn and were known for the delicious snacks and meals they served. On Stocker Sale day, llean would'make 35 or more pies in her farm house to serve to the buyers buyers and sellers, together with a hot meal of usually roast beef or roast pork (O' gether with all the trimmings She did not want anyone to go away hungry, llean also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in showing showing her friends the beautiful flowers she grew at the farm in Orono, her house and later her balcony flowers in Bowmanville. On several occasions occasions llean would cut many of her flowers so that they could be used on the tables tables for various functions that were being held in and around Orono. She also entered entered many of her prize winning winning roses and dahlias at the Orono Fair along with her famous apple pie. After giving the family farm and sales barn to her son Charles, she moved to Bowmanville Bowmanville where she lived first in a house on Wellington Street, then moved to the Hendry Apartments and for the last three years was a resident at the Strathaven Retirement Home, llean for many years had been an active member of the U.C.W. at Orono United Church and a Director for the Orono Fair Board. She loved to play euchre and cheer the jonies at the horse races. Afhen she lived at the Hendry Apartments, she and her friends Marjorie McGee and Audrey Turner would often visit the Sunday Flea Market at the Bowmanville Mall and spent many happy hours playing euchre and bridge at their respective apartments. On February 12, 1995 over 100 relatives and friends helped celebrate celebrate Mean's 80th birthday party. It was a happy occasion occasion for everyone, llean will be remembered by her lovely smile and contagious contagious laugh. She will be greatly greatly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. MATTHEWS Joan Agnes (Munday) Funeral was February 9, 1998 for Joan Agnes Matthews who died February 7, 1998 at Trenton Memorial Hospital following a lengthy courageous battle with lung disease at age 65. Service was at Morris Funeral Chapel, Chapel, Bowmanville, with Rev Frank Lockhart officiating. Her sister-in-law Marg : Munday gave an organ trib ute of her favourite hymns prior to the service and her brother-in-law Archie Bernard shared loving memories with his eulogy. When reminiscing about the people and the happenings of years gone by, his excellent memory and his dry wit made it humorous and. Interesting. Interesting. Never once did I hear him relied negatively about how the world had changed in his lifetime; lifetime; or complain about his lot in life; in fact he often commented on his "good life". I honestly looked fonvard lo my visits with him; and as we sat, chatted and celebrated "occasions", generally with coffee, I never ever would have thought of him as an "Old Man".
