BAT EXHIBIT AT OSHAWA MUSEUM -- "Bats of Ontario" exhibit exhibit will be on display at the Oshawa Sydenham Museum during the months of February and March. This exhibit explores bats, the extraordinary extraordinary creatures who have inhabited the night skies for more than 50 million years. This exhibit is organized and circulated by the Royal Ontario Museum through its Outreach Services-Education Programs Department. His work, along with that of Cynthia Hammond, is part of an exhibition entitled "Do Not Be Afraid." Themes of flight, transcendence, distance distance and travel arc interwoven throughout this collaborative collaborative installation which symbolically represents represents a ship on an Atlantic passage. The exhibition continues until February 27th. The fourteenth annual annual Winter's Harvest show of crafts will open on March 8th. Dr. Yearwood Trinity United Church was the setting for Durham Chapter #181, Order of the Eastern Star's 70th Birthday Party, Saturday, February 7, 1998. A social hour was enjoyed when many friendships were renewed and new friendships friendships made. Mrs. Kathleen Martin attended the guest book. A tribute to General Grand Chapter was given by Mrs. Eleanor Walker, and responded to by Mr. Mike Bcacock, G.G.C.C.M. Mrs. Hazel Raby gave a tribute to the visitors and this was responded to by Mrs. Marjorie Jeffery P.D.D.G.M. We were entertained by Mrs. Doreen Carpenter, whose wit and talent gave us much pleasure. She was accompanied at the piano . by Mrs. Mary Hunt. The history of Durham Chapter's 70 years was summarized by Mrs. Jean Sumersford, followed by a tribute to Durham Chapter capably given by Mrs. Gay Adair D.D.G.M., and responded to by Mr. Ken Sumersford. A presentation was made to W.G.P. of $300,00 for Grand Chapter Project, Juvenile Diabetes Research. A cheque of the same amount was given to Mr. Donald Thornton, Grand Treasurer for the Grand Chapter Miracle Penny Fund. Mrs. Audrey Martin P.G.M. gave appreciation for the wonderful party and named the committee on arrangements: Diane Gareau, Eric Gareau, Shirley Greenham, Jean Sumersford, Freida Solima, Gwen Holmes, Shea-Lea Latchford, Carol Wardell including herself. A drawing of door prizes gave eight people gifts to take home. The very happy, successful party came to a close by the singing of God Save The Queen.
