Frank Simpson, who is one of the hall board volunteers involved in the fund-raising efforts, says things are on schedule, with Phase One of the three- phase project set to go this year. When completed, the Community Centre will have a new soccer pitch (with the option of adding a second one for tournaments), two senior baseball baseball diamonds, and a basketball court. It will also include re-locating the chil dren's playground. When complete, the entire project will carry a price tag of $115,000. Organizers have been able to keep the cost low through the use of volunteers. The completion date is set for 1999 or 2000. The group needs to raise $47,000 to complete phase one. So far, half of the money has been raised. Upcoming fund-raising events include a Yuk Yuk's night of comedy, a turkey dinner, and various sports tournaments tournaments this summer. One of the big events will be a ladies' recreational slo pitch tournament on June 6-7. Interested teams can contact Neal Smith of the Tyrone Athletic Assoc, at 263-2088.
