In the summer of 1996 Heather headed for the Massachusetts, Boston (Spanish-speaking) Mission. Heather spent most of her time teaching the gospel but she also dedicated 4 hours a week to service. This included working with elderly patients at a hospital, office work for the Lung Association and working at the local zoo. Boston is a city rich with American History. It wasn't uncommon to see buildings with plaques dating dating them in the 1700's and 1800's.. Though Boston is a very beautiful city, it was the people that Heather worked with that really won her heart. In fact it was very difficult for her to leave them. While she was there she worked mainly with Central and South Americans, Puerto Ricans and immigrants from the Dominican Republic. In fact, she worked among the people living in the second largest Projects in the United States. Heather says most of the occupants were from Puerto Rico and that the You're invited to Stutt's Pharmacy 5344 Main St., Orono DIABETES INFORMATION DAY TUESDAY, MARCH 3,9 a.m. - 6 P .m. featuring Meter Clinic UFESCPil Bring in your meter and it will be cleaned and checked for accuracy. Letter to the Editor MP Salaries are Rated in Top 10 % Dear Sir/Madam: Prime Minister Jean Chretien was way offside when he recently whined about how he makes less money than the worst hockey player in the NHL. Factually he was right, but so what? A more relevant comparison comparison the Prime Minister might consider is that most Canadian taxpayers make less money then the worst performing MP in the House of Commons! And what about the gold-plated MP pension? Comparing that to what's available for ordinary Canadians is like comparing comparing a pec-wee hockey team to the Stanley Cup Champions! That's why all this recent moaning from some MPs on how underpaid they arc is so hard to stomach, stomach, Let's face it, the average average backbench MP is little more than a bcnchwarmcr for his/her political party. On important legislative matters, MPs act as sales rep for their political party, as well as being local ombudsmen on less contentious contentious issues. For this MPs arc more than adequately compensated. compensated. Their real salary of over $100,000 a year puts them in the lop 10% of Canadian households. Maybe the Prime Minister should spend less time feeling sorry for himself himself and more time trying to reform Parliament so that MPs can actually earn their high salaries. In the meantime, lie should leave hockey commentary commentary to Don Cherry. Volunteering is so important. From page 4 would easily recognize the very limited potential of this site. Alterations to the soils, as a result of aggregate aggregate removal, are very apparent. However, I think that in considering this proposal, your perspective should be much broader than site features and should consider the potential potential impact on the rural economy. A healthy rural economy, economy, now and in the future, depends on more than just corn fields, pastures and apple trees. Urban residents residents want and need opportunities to get a feel for rural and resource based industries. The successes successes in recent years of the Great Ganaraska and the Durham Countryside Adventures have convinced convinced me, and many other rural business operators, that a range of mixed rural and resource based land uses offers the best opportunity opportunity to meet this public demand. I believe that, just as historical industrial nodes like water powered mills were accepted as part of the rural environment, other resource based industries can blend in and provide interesting insight Capsule Comments with Neale McLean, b.Sc.
