"Smokers get hooked when they are young," said Garry Minnie, President of the East Durham Unit of the C.C.S. "In fact, information from the Ontario Ministry of Health shows that 90 per cent of adult smokers became addicted as teenagers." "We think National Non-Smoking Week, January 18th to the 24th, is a good time for people to remind their Members of Parliament that we have a public health crisis caused by smoking and the effects of tobacco use," Mr. Minnie said. He added that tobacco use is a major contributor to lung cancer, with 80 to 85 per cent of lung cancer cases resulting from tobacco use. .
