The goaltending duo of Sam Andrews and Kevin Mitchell shared the shutout, the fourth shutout in the team's last six games. fed a wide open Albertini for a 3-0 advantage. Eric Dcvcra completed the scoring as he took a clearing pass from Kyle Zavitz and went coast- lo-coast, depositing a wrist shot into tbe top corner. Roy's next challenge came in the form of the vastly vastly improved Whitby Wildcats squad. Whitby dominated the first period, as only the quick reflexes of Toros goalie, Nathan Flint, kept the game at a scoreless draw. Early in the second, Whitby capitalized capitalized on a Toro turnover for the game's first goal. Late in the period, Garrett Scatterty tied the game on a great individual individual effort as he warded off three Wildcats as he skated.to the net, firing a rising wrist shot into the twine. Roy's Enterprise next travelled north to participate in their fifth tournament of the year, The Bradford Winter Classic. The boys opened the tournament with a convincing 5-0 decision over the Oshawa LN1IL Bruins. Garrett Scatterty fired a pair of first period goals, the first as he teamed up with Andrew Moore and Eric Devera; and the second as he finished off three-way passing play with Dcvcra and Chad Usher. William Minnema scored the lone marker in the second period off of the forechccking of Albertini and Chapman. Albertini then connected with one of his own early in the third, assisted by Chapman and Minnema. The Toros finished off the scoring late in the third when Minnema one-timed it past the Oshawa goalie. Picking up the shutout and copping Player of the Game honours for the Toros was goaltcndcr, Peter Hamilton. Game two featured a much anticipated match-up with a highly touted Stouffville team. Brett Chapman broke a scoreless deadlock early in the second as he fought through the Stouffville defence for an unassisted effort. Stouffville replied late in the frame and the game ended in a 1-1 lie. The Toros were outshot by a wide margin as they played much of the game short- handed having been assessed five minor penalties to none for Stouffville. Toros goalie, Nathan Flint, turned in a "Dominic Hasek" performance performance as he turned aside 32 of the 33 shots that he faced. Player of the Game kudos went to Brett Chapman. To advance to the finals, Roy's would have to beat Innisfil. It was not to be, as Innisfil took advantage of a couple of Toro miscucs and skated away with a 3-0 victory. victory. Nathan Flint put together another strong performance in the cage and was presented presented with the Player of the Game medallion. Mitch McMichael got things going for Clarington in the first when he accepted a pinpoint feed from Chris Marchant to put the Toros up 1-0. Also assisting on the play was Adam Derks. In the second, the line of Cory Prince, Jason Cadwell and Brian Allore kept things rolling with Prince scoring first from Cadwell, and then Cadwell cashing in from Prince. Newmarket continued to hustle and managed to put a small chink in the armour of Chad Dcighton by scoring two of their own in the second. However, thanks to the strong defensive defensive play of Tim Lew, David Connelly, Jeff Ward, Adam Derks, Danny Morrison and Nick Bonin; that would be all the scoring that Newmarket could muster on this day. In the third, the line of Haley VanSeggelen, Chris Jukic and David Ross finished off the Redmen, with VanSeggelen converting on a setup from Jukic and Ross. On Sunday, the Toros travelled to Markham to meet the Waxers. This game would prove to be one of the toughest matches Clarington would play in some time. The line of Kyle Goodchild, Mitch McMichael, and Chris Marchant, with defensive partners partners Jeff Ward and Adam Derks pressured pressured the Waxers into coughing up the puck. This resulted in a nifty play that started with a pass from McMichael to Ward, who then found Goodchild open in the slot. Kyle converted on a setup to put the Toros in front 1-0. In the second, the Waxers took advantage of a Toro giveaway to put their only marker by Mike Schrider, who was solid in net all game. Neither team was able to regain the lead, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. This week's action improves Mackic Automotive's interleaguc record to 24-1-3.
