Kevin Connelly played a strong game on defense in a losing cause. Undaunted, a strong team effort provided the Toros with a convincing 5-1 victory in its first game against Pickering. Leading the charge was John DeMille with two goals. Chipping in with singles were Jeff Perron, Alex Andringa and Tyler Castellan. Assists went to Devon Potter (2), John DeMille, Matt Savoie, Trevor Richtlcr, Eric Button and Derrick Crosscy. Kevin Kirkwood, between the pipes, provided solid goal- tending. As it did in its second game against Uxbridge, the team found itself trailing a more determined opposition. opposition. By the ten minute mark of the second period the team was trailing 4-1 with the threat of elimination looming. Eric Button scored the lone Clarington goal assisted by John DeMille. As it has shown many times in the past, it is not a team that will throw in the towel. On January 31, the Toros finished their round robin schedule strongly at home versus versus the Trenton Golden Hawks, defeating the visitors 2-1 in a very exciting and physical physical game. It wasn't until the middle of the second period that Trenton took a 1-0 lead on a power play, with two Toros in the penalty box. However, the Toros answered quickly with a goal by Tyler Ferguson who blasted home a rebound off a shot by Marc Rogers, who had just completed a beautiful end-to-end rush to set up the goal. Clarington then took the lead late in the third period when Kurtis Sahvay converted a nice pass from Corey Bradburn, who finished finished a great job of forcchccking in the corners, corners, to give the Toros the lead for the first time in the game. The win completed the homc-and-home sweep for the Toros over Trenton, as Clarington had travelled to Trenton on Wednesday, January 27, defeating the Hawks by a score of 5-2. The line of Ferguson, Farrow and Murray combined for six points to lead the Toros attack, as captain Tyler Ferguson scored a pair of goals, with Nathan Murray adding a goal and an assist, with Brad Farrow contributing contributing an assist. Kurtis Sahvay rounded out the scoring for Clarington. Goaltendcrs Matthew Cooper and Robbie Goddard gave the team a solid effort to earn the victory. Unfortunately, it was the Toros inability to grab a victory from the high flying Port Perry Predators that did the boys in, as the Predators defeated Clarington 4-1 in Darlington and 6-3 at home in Scugog arena. Tyler Beers scored the lone Toro goal in the 4-1 loss at home assisted by Corey Bradburn and Kurtis Sahvay. Tyler Ferguson, Ryan Breakey and Nathan Murray scored for Clarington on the road in Port Perry in the 6-3 loss, with Marc Rogers, Brad Farrow and Ferguson all picking up assists. Port Perry won the four game round robin with 3 wins and 1 loss, the Toros finished finished second with 2 wins and 2 losses and Trenton finished third with 1 win and 3 losses. The Toros will now enter the Lakeshore league playoffs to finish their season. CNC Custom Machining Toros Sweep Whitby in Two Straight The CNC Custom Major Pcewee 'AA' scored 11 goals and allowed only 3 in their first round of playoffs to beat out the Whitby Wildcats. Scoring for'Clarington was Shawn Hughes, Matt Beech, Colin Baker, Greg Tamblyn, Brendan Kalijundic, Tadd Evans and Mike Daly. Assists went to Colin Baker, Brandon Beers, Tyler Brown, Matt Beech, Mike Daly, Matt Tamblyn, Greg Tamblyn and Zach Pither. Preston Moving Ousted by Lindsay A high flying Lindsay Muskics hockey team eliminated eliminated the Preston Moving and Storage Minor Atom 'A' Toros from the O.M.H.A. playoffs in two straight games by scores of 4-2 and 6- 3. That tying goal only seemed to inspire the visiting Lindsay squad as they scored one more goal before the end of the first period, two in the second, and another in the third before Andrew Neal scored for the Toros to close out the scoring at 6-3 in favour of the Muskies. The Committee shall be comprised of twelve (12) volunteers; eight (8) from the community at large, three (3) from public agencies and one (1) Member of Council.
