Rotarians Launch 1999 Easter Seals Campaign The Rotary Club of Bowmanville is pleased to announce the start of the 52nd Easter Seals Campaign supporting Ontario children with physical disabilities. The campaign runs from March 1 to April 15. Through the generous support of people in our district which includes all of Clarington and north to Blackstock and Nestlcton, we were able to help 56 children and their families. More importantly, we were there to support any family who needed our services. The Easter Seals Society, Ontario - driven by volunteers - is working to enable children with physical disabilities to achieve their full individual individual potential and future independence. Children from birth to age 19, and their families families benefit from Easter Seals' community based services, which include financial assistance for essential equipment, residential camping and respite care, parent support programs, and advocacy. advocacy. The Society also supports medical research into the causes of disabling conditions. The Volunteer Committee of the ODSO needs books for its annual second-hand book sale, to be held early in May. Every year, ODSO asks people to donate no- longcr-nccdcd books for this annual fund-raising event. Books that you have known and loved and eared for can find new homes - all in support of the Oshawa-Durham Symphony Orchestra. Best Diabetes Centre for Children and Youth is planning a fundraising Gala in celebration of its 10th Anniversary, to be held on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at the prestigious prestigious Trafalgar Castle School in Whitby. The Centre, the only one of its kind in Canada, is aiming to raise $75,000 from the event. All proceeds will go towards the Centre's unique and much needed program for children and adolescents with Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes. A number of celebrities, including Bill and Paula Lishman, Ken Shaw (CFTO News), Beverly Thompson and Loretta Sullivan (Global News), Avis Favaro (CTV's Medical Correspondent) and Stephen Brunt (Globe and Mail Sports Writer) will be in attendance. The Gala will provide participants an opportunity opportunity to have fun, mingle with celebrities, elected representatives and corporate executives. The Charles H. Two More Concerts Added The Oshawa-Durham Symphony Orchestra, known as perhaps the best regional orchestra in Ontario under conductor and music director Marco Parisotto, performs four concerts each year. Deserving Youths Honored by Newcastle Optimists The Second Newcastle Pathfinders Unit and 11 other young people were honored Thursday, February 25th, by the Newcastle Optimist Club. In addition to the Pathfinders, individual awards went to: Kyle Dupont, Julie Harper, Deanna Imray, Brennan Luscher, Dan MacDonald, Ashley Sauve, Shawn Spooner, Laura Stacey, Brent Vanstonc, Amanda Willson and Katie Wood. Optimists Marlene Connolly (committee chair) and Lucinda Cull (club president), are also shown in the photo along with some of the award recipients. The presentation was part of Youth Appreciation Week. Toastmasters Evaluate and Motivate Education was the hallmark of the February 23, 1999 meeting meeting of Bowmanville Toastmasters. Toastmaster Mary Ann Mayc led a story telling into which each Toastmaster she called upon had to fit his/her episode for the impromptu session. After the break, Toastmaster Maye changed hats and introduced introduced the evening speakers who presented Educational Seminars.
