The problem is that these systems could be just as expensive as a municipal sanitary sewer system. "We are certainly sympathetic sympathetic to the problem in the downtown core as the limitations limitations of the sewer system are restricting their ability to expand," said Wong. "For economic reasons, they want to expand but can't." The motion is expected to get final approval at next week's council meeting before being forwarded to the Durham Region. Dollar$ & Sense with Deborah Kohlsmith Financial Consultant Make the World 100% RRSP Eligible! In the recent Federal Budget no changes were made to the foreign content limitations within RRSPs. This means that we continue to be restricted to investing a minimum of 80% of our registered investments inside Canada. The Canadian market which currently makes up approximately 2% of the world market, underperformed the foreign markets once again in 1998. As Canadians, many of us tend to have more than adequate exposure to Canadian assets. We generally receive our salaries in Canadian dollars, own a primary residence in Canada (and maybe even a vacation properly) and, by law, are required to invest 80% of our retirement funds in Canadian assets. However, by concentrating our assets in Canada, we often overlook the abundance of investment opportunities outside our borders. For us to increase the amount of money we will have invested for retirement it is necessary for us to invest beyond the foreign-content barrier the Canadian government lias imposed on us. if your investments are held outside your RRSP then no restrictions exist and you may invest wherever you like, however investments held inside an RRSP are restricted to the above limitations. Options do exist. Certain funds on the market provide international exposure with 100% RRSP eligibility. Simply put these funds invest in Canadian Treasury Bills and use a future based investment strategy to achieve this 100% RRSP eligibility. Essentially they are investing in the underlying indices of the particular country (i.e. Europe, U.S.). Global diversification allows you to reduce your dependence on the Canadian economy and at the same time provides you with potential to increase the returns on your investments. Isn't it lime to carefully consider how your RRSPs are invested to best benefit yon in the long term! REGAL CAPITAL PLANNERS LTD. 708 King Street East, Bowmanville, Ont. L1C 1N5 (905) 623-1936 Clorington Shows the Flog Mayor Diane Hantre and Claringlon's councillors councillors were joined by Regional Chair Roger Anderson and MPP John O'Toole for the flag-raising ceremony outside of the municipal building on Monday. The flag, which features the municipality's coal of arms, was ordered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Clarington and the Durham Region. New Flag to Fly at Municipal Buildings by Michelle Wyton Staff Writer Clarington's new flag was unveiled Monday morning in a short ceremony at the municipal building on Temperance Street. On hand for the flag-raising were Mayor Diane Hamre, councillors councillors and town staff, as well as MPP John O'Toole and Durham Region Chair Roger Anderson. The flag, featuring the municipality's municipality's coat of arms, will fly at all municipal facilities. It will also fly at the Region's headquarters in Whitby in celebration of the area's 25th anniversary. The design of the flag is simple, simple, with the coat of arms centred on a green background with yellow yellow lettering. Getting the flag made was historically historically more of a challenge. "We tried to get a flag years ago, when Garnet Rickard was mayor, but the discussion on the design of the flag tore council up so badly we put it aside," said Mayor Hamre. "This council agreed that we should have a flag and that with our 25th anniversary anniversary it would be a good year to do it." This time around, getting the flag made was a relatively easy process. The design, proposed by Councillor Troy Young, was heartily accepted by council. "I want to thank all of council for their support in bringing this flag forward," said Hamre. "They came together as a team as they always do." A flag was also presented to Regional Chair Roger Anderson who remarked that the story behind Clarington's crest is representative representative of the story behind the entire region. "It's a long story and one we hope will be around for a long time," he said. The crest was designed in 1977 and its symbols represent what life in Clarington was like at that time. The area's original settlers settlers are represented by the flowers flowers at the base of the crest which include the English, Scottish and Irish national flowers and Ontario's official flower, the Trillium. The- agricultural background background is wcll-rcprcscntcd by a tree, plough and wheat sheaf. Industry is also represented on the crest by carriage wheels, a millstone and the atomic energy sign.
