John was a 60 year member of Kendal Orange Lodge and a veteran of W.W.II. The Community Care dinner had a "Hawaiian Theme", as all tables were decorated and waiters and waitresses wore lcis around their necks. A delicious dinner, with pineapple juice, ham, baked potatoes, vegetables with cake and ice cream for dessert. Dini Schocnmakcr welcomed the crowd of 54 and grace by Reverend Mcrvyn Russell. Her many friends and neighbours will be saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Nellie Baird (Arnott) on Thursday, February 25, in Toronto. She rested at Mclntosh-Anderson Funeral Home, Toronto. Service was from the chapel on Saturday. (Nellie and Cyril were former residents of Orono). Congratulations to Mr. Peter Chrisomolis a former teacher here in Orono, who recently received the 1999 Ontario School Library Association Award. (Distinguished Administrators). The Chrisomolis family family were- former owners of our house (11 Mill St.). A good attendance Sunday evening at Kirby United Church, for the presentation presentation of "Sleeping Children Around The World", Delightful music by St. Paul's United Church Jr. Choir, under the direction ' of Allanah Coles, Bowmanvillc. Reverend Russell welcomed welcomed all, Billie Kemp, Bowmanvillc, as guest speaker explained the origin of the project and showed very pretty and educational slides of Columbia, where she and her sister Marianne Chapelle, Belleville, enjoyed a recent trip, showing where the "Bed Kits" were donated to the poor and needy children. Kinsmen Support Pathfinders' Expedition A $400 donation from the Bowmanvillc Kinsmen Club will help speed members of the Third Bowmanvillc Pathfinders to an international camp in New Brunswick this summer. Aubrey Rees, a representative of the Bowmanvillc Kinsmen and a past deputy governor of the club, was on hand recently to present the cheque. Dianne McGill has details. Visiting In Southeast Asia There has been no column for the last few weeks because I spent sixteen days in Malaysia, visiting daughter Karen. We toured the city of Johor Bahru where she lives, seeing the Sultan's palace with its silver dishes and crystal chairs and lamps and visiting visiting a fishing kampung where we were entertained in one of the homes. We also visited Melaka where the Portuguese, Dutch and English each left their mark on the city. Chinatown in this city was dressed up for the Lunar New Year.
