Road Watch Operating in Village by Joyce Kelly At the morning service of Bkickstock United Church the sacrament of Baptism was conducted by Reverend David Shearman when Donna Marie Carr and Molly Anne Irene Carr daughter of Donna and Chris were received. During the service the senior senior choir sang an excellent anthem Lord Be My Rock/Jcsus Loves Me. The topic of Reverend Shearman's thought-provoking thought-provoking sermon was. The annual Awards Banquet for the Blackstock Curling Club will be held at the Blackstock United Church C.E. Room on Friday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m in the form of a pot luck supper. The report of the nominating committee will be given as well as the awards presented. All curlers arc urged to make the effort to attend to make a worthwhile event. A warm welcome to Blackstock is extended to Jennifer (nee Arbucklc) and Philip McLeod who moved into their new home on Old Scugog Road beside Lishmans. There were 10 tables of euchre at the Tuesday evening party with the following following winners - Harold Crawford, Lyle McMahon, Velma Johnston, Ed Johnson, Vivian Kidd, Alma Manns and Mcrv Storric. We now have the opportunity to report the irresponsible driver who not only risks herself/himself herself/himself but others on the road. If there is an interested group in our community Blackstock News who would like to learn more about this very worthwhile worthwhile program, someone will come to speak about it. But now it is up to each of us to do our part. Don't always rely on someone else to do it for you!! St. John's News by Colin Beal In the afternoon, on Friday, March 5, Stc. Bernadette's Church hosted the World Day of Prayer. The theme for this year's agenda was "The People of Venezuela". Approximately forty people attended, with representatives representatives from all of the churches in our area. Several members of St. John's were present and enjoyed the World Day of Prayer. All churches participated participated in the program. St. John's shared in the Call to Worship, the scripture readings readings and prayers. Father Hogan gave an excellent talk based on a reading from Hosca. The collection received from this event is donated to "The World Day of Prayer." Father Hugh reminded us, in his sermon, that "God Knows What We Are Up To". Our choir sang "Hymn of Prayer" and they did a spectacular job. We all enjoyed the "Coffee Time" alter church. It was compliments of Lorna Edgerton. Quilting Projects Underway ; This beautiful sunny weather is great for cutting cutting wood along the fcnccrows. Tulips and daffodils have started to show on the west side of the house so I get out the mulch to cover them. There will be lots of cold nights yet. ;! Good wishes to all those who are or have been in hospital, including including Doris Baker, Harold Murphy and Walter Lovcridge. Also to those who have had this severe cold that is doing the rounds. Spring will be here soon. ; If you are looking for an outing this week, quilting is available. The Seniors have their quilt in at the community centre centre early in the week, and there is one in the Sunday School starting Tyrone News on Wednesday. Phone Betty Pascoc for details. On Friday of this week (March 19) the church is selling pancakes pancakes at Purple Woods Conservation Area. If you would like to help, call Bill Hasiuk, if you would like to eat just go to Purple Woods any time between 9:30 a.m. till about 2:30 p.m. On Wednesday, March 31, Rev. Norm will be at the church to answer any questions you might have about the United Church, Tyrone or Enniskillen Church, or churches in general. The evening begins at 7:30 and coffee and cookies will be served. It's just an informal information evening. Everyone is welcome. Easter Services: An open invitation to all! ' The March meeting of the Bowmanville W.I. was held bn March 4th at Trinity Church Hall. i We started at 12 noon with a pot luck luncheon. ? President Bernice Puk welcomed all and then we sang O Canada and the Institute Ode. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. adopted. Treasurer's report was given. Correspondence was read. We then had a discussion about our 100th anniversary which takes place June 1st, 2000. We started by getting a few committees arranged. Louise Bell took charge of Ihe program and read a humorous poem about a diet but was written like "The Lord Is My Shepherd", quite interesting.' Mary Tough gave the motto "The Beginning Of the Tweedsmuir History". . As the topic was the Tweedsmuir History we combined combined it with the Roll Call which encompassed "A Happening In Your Life That Could Be Of Interest To Others". Everyone present told of events that they had experienced experienced in earlier years, As some of our members are from other countries such as Wales and Scotland, these stories were very interesting. Lyra Flintojf P.R.O. : Wl Group Learns About Adult Day Care Program ; On March 11, 1999, niembers of the Providence Shaw's Women's Institute met in Newcastle at the Adult Day Care Centre. ' The administrator welcomed welcomed us and explained what the program offered, such as social and recreational recreational opportunities to the frail, elderly, physically challenged challenged and those with a cognitive cognitive impairment. It is funded funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health through Durham Region Community Care. A tour of the facilities enabled us to admire the bright cheerful rooms set up for a variety of programs such as crafts, baking, exercise, exercise, music programs , pet therapy, special luncheons and guest speakers. ; Marilyn Martin thanked Jennifer and presented her with a donation.
