Easter morning service featured beau- Blackstock News tilul music by both the Junior and Senior choirs, Communion and a fine message by Reverend David Shearman. St. John's News by Colin Beal Holy Week was a very busy time at St. John's and especially so for Father Hugh who presided over services on Tuesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and of course Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, there were in fact, three services - The Stations of the Cross, a Communion Service and the Good Friday Liturgy. The Stations of the Cross was announced as a children's service, however in addition to a lot of children, children, there was an even larger number of adults. Nearly all stayed for the two later services, where they were joined by others who came for Communion or the Good Friday Liturgy or both. On Easter Sunday, the children of the church school presented the church with a floral arch which they had built in their classes during Lent. This will decorate the church throughout the Season of Easier. The Choir, under the direction of Catherine Corden, sang anthems at all the services as well as singing the various various liturgies and leading the congregation congregation in hymns and psalms. Our choiristcrs had put in a lot of time rehearsing for Holy Week and it was a musical and spiritual treat to hear them. Next Sunday (April 11) there will be lots more Easter music as the morning service will be a Festival of Easter Hymns, Anthems and Readings. 4-H Minutes On March 23, 1999 the members of the Blackstock 4-H Club attended a Fun Night at the Bowmanvillc Fitness Club. Campaign Helps Kids and Newborns You've read about it and heard about it on the news for months now. Every day, pregnant mothers, newborns and children are being transferred to hospitals hundreds of miles from their homes and families. Why? Because their local hospitals don't have the necessary equipment to provide the care they need. However, there is good news in Durham Region. Lakcridge Health Oshawa has been designated a Regional Perinatal and Paediatric Centre. Soon, the Hospital will have the equipment to care for these patients here, close to their homes and families. families. Soon, they won't have to be transferred transferred to hospitals outside Durham Region. Why are we saying soon? Because, right now, the hospital has the designation but not the equipment needed to fulfill the requirements of a Regional Perinatal and Paediatric Centre. The "Keeping the Pace" Annual Fund has adopted the Regional Perinatal and Paediatric Centre equipment needs as the theme for its 1999 Campaign called, 'Caring for Kids'. 'Caring for Kids', a one-year campaign to raise $1.1 million, was launched at a breakfast kick-off on Thursday, April 8, at the Carriage House Conference Centre on the Parkwood Estate. A portion of the program will be devoted devoted to the celebration of Mary Kate's second birthday. Born two years ago, seven weeks premature and weighing four pounds and one ounce, Mary Kate is today a healthy toddler due to the care she received at birth. She embodies the purpose and spirit of the 'Caring for Kids' Campaign. "Keeping. the Pace" is the Oshawa General Hospital Foundation's Annual Fund Campaign to raise money for the medical equipment and other healthcare related needs of Lakeridge health Oshawa. The Annual Fund has been in existence since 1992 and has enjoyed the overwhelming overwhelming financial support of the community community in each of its fund-raising campaigns.
