Heffering has held just about every position with the Eagles since joining the club five years ago. Previously, lie has been a scout, a head scout, assistant coach, and last season, took over the coaching duties 20 games into the season. His loyalty, and the fact Laing wanted to hire from within the organization, were contributing contributing factors in the decision. decision. "Jim knows the team, and has a lot of experience," added Laing. Heffering will try to assemble a club that should be able to improve on this year's performance, when Bowmanville finished ninth in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs. He expects that only five players players from last season's roster won't be back with the club. "Our team will be very close to the one last season. I want us to have a lot of heart and drive. We will be a young team, and not-have a lot of players in their final year," said the 42-year-old, Brooklin resident. His first order of business business was to oversee an evaluation evaluation camp this past weekend weekend that was attended by close to 84 hockey players. Next on the list will be to hire a head coach. Though an option exists for Heffering to return as head coach, he would rather not. "I could, but the chances are I won't," he said. He would like to see a new coach in place before the team holds its final evaluation evaluation camp in July.
