She is from Argyle, Ontario, Northcolt Gardens. There was a very enticing display of perennials, books and (especially to this writer), gorgeous glad corms, from our dear friend Mrs. Bertha Barnes, all on the sale tables. Many look advantage advantage to slock up! Yours truly had difficult difficult job judging entries. A delicious lunch closed the evening and special winners were announced. Best houscplant in show - Lorna Atkins; Judge's Choice, Best Decorative - Shelly Etmanski; Best African Violet - Doreen Lowery; Most Points in Show - Minnie Zegcrs. Executive meets on Monday, May 3, at 1 p.m. Orono Stewards meets on Monday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. Orono Session meets on Tuesday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. 'Famine" Strikes High School Close to 100 students at Bowmanvillc High School participated in World Vision's 30-Hour Famine over the weekend. The event was a fund-raiser lor World Vision and a reminder of the fact that much ol the world doesn't enjoy three nutritious meals each day. Some of the students arc pictured above on Friday evening with Durham East MPP John O'Toole, who dropped by to wish them well. The "famine" concluded with a meal on Saturday afternoon. During the 30 hours, students enjoyed games and movies and a visit from Jungle Cat World. Some of the donors included: St. Anne's Water; Loblaws, M&M Meats, A&P, IGA, McDonalds, and Jumbo Video. Doreen Westlake and Mary Millson were the greeters and Donna Snowden the lay reader. As usual the choir provided a lovely lovely anthem. Reverend Doug Warren and his wife, Vange, were with us this Sunday. Reverend Warren was the guest speaker as Reverend Munro was at Sheridan United's anniversary service. The children's story was about letting your light shine and the sermon "Goals for Life". The hymn "It only Takes a Spark" closed the service. Thanks for coming, Doug. There were 22 men out for a good breakfast at Eldad Sunday morning. Fred Horvath was the guest speaker. He spoke on the Millenium - Year 2000. Our sympathy to Ida Bray on the death of lier sister, Dorothy of St. Catharines and to Vicky and Greg Bray on the passing of Vicky's father. Another successful Salad Supper took place on Sunday, April 25, with a sell-out crowd at both settings. Three hundred peo- Solina News pie enjoyed the ham, salads and of course the pies. A big thank you to all who bought tickets, prepared food and served. Special thanks to my helper, Lloyd Broome, at the ticket table. Several local individuals attended and received Volunteer Service awards from the Municipality of Clarington at an annual annual awards presentation and reception held at the Beech Centre this past Thursday, April 22.
