Green Space Beaver Danon Morey and his brother, Ryan, were hard at work Saturday, planting trees at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. About 200 Scouts were on a mission to plant 1,600 trees. Scouts have been involved with tree planting at Darlington for the past 13 years. They have, so far, planted more than 30,000 trees. Attend Annual Meeting The 37th annual Bay of Quinte Conference was held on April 14 and 15th, 1999 at Trinity United Church in Bobcaygcon, Ontario. One hundred and thirty- seven United Church women from all seven prcsbytcrials registered over the two days. The theme of the conference was "It Only Takes a Spark". Conference President Anne Timmons opened the meeting with the constitution and all ,-repcating the U.C.W. purpose. Reverend Paul Boughen of Trinity United Church, Bobcaygcon, spoke on how the values of people , have changed. He stated 'that we are going through a cultural shock, with so many choices it can be paralyzing. His message was followed by his conducting the sacrament of Holy Communion for all in attendance. Mary Justice introduced introduced a delightful group called the Mariposa Singers from Oakwood. , They have been together ' for three years and span three generations in age. i ; Their music was enjoyed ; by all. The guest speaker ■Wednesday evening was • Reverend Myra Garvin of a three point charge in the Brockvillc area. She gave an inspiring message message on the many uses of the word "Grace". She ■ spoke on how we say grace before meals, your Grace, for royalty and how Jesus saw grace and communicated it to us through the parables. The evening Vesper service was prepared by Marina Rogers of Oshawa entitled "Spreading God's Love". Our guest speaker on Thursday was Betty Turcott of Faith United in Courtice. Betty is a published writer, a musician, musician, a hymn writer and an innovative workshop leader. She has served as a local U.C.W. member, a past president of Oshawa Prcsbytcrial U.C.W., a member of the Bay of Quinte. Conference U.C.W. and many other groups. Betty spoke today on the closing of the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women. The goal of the decade was to share in the equality for women in all areas of life and in all countries. Betty explained how the many varieties of oppression were trying to be met according to the needs of that particular particular country. She explained how at one point lengths of coloured cloths were streaming around the room to show how braiding and colours stand for stories of the women around the world saying "With Strong Hands We Braid Hope Together". Betty also shared stories stories with us of some women in Africa she had met. We heard their life stories of oppression leading to the hope for the future. Betty extended great thanks for all the support, support, prayers, letters and love given to her during this time. A memorial service for those gone before us was presented by Cobourg.
