The annual Cartwright High School Formal held on Saturday evening at the Recreation centre was very well attended. The theme was "Enchanted Forest". The 1999 CHS Queen is Jada MacLeod with her princesses Lisa Bucking and Leslie Lamb. Adam Walhout and Adam Shore tied for the title of King with the princes as Darryl McClurg and Mike Laing. All in all it was a delightful evening. On Sunday a joyous family Blackstock News party was held in honour of Babe and Wilf Brown, Nancy Bryan's parents, to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The entire Bryans family attended along with 100 relatives relatives and friends. Congratulations on this important important occasion. The Sunday Eucharist at St. John's was celebrated using the 1549 Prayer Book Rite in recognition of the 450th Anniversary of the introduction of the Book of Common Prayer. Because a service conducted using the full 1549 liturgy would have taken some three hours, some portions were omitted and, although the printed printed service booklet was written in Tudor English, modern English was used but with "thees and thous". In Tudor times, there was little singing of hymns. Indeed, almost all singing was done by Priest and Choir; however, we did want the congregation to get involved so, in default of 16th Century hymns, our hymns for this service were mostly chosen from the 18th Century. The other major divergence from church practices in 1549 was of course, the roles played by some of the ladies of the Parish in the reading of lessons, singing in the choir and serving in the Sanctuary. But, even though we didn't do things exactly according to the original original Book, this was a very interesting interesting experience with some familiar prayers and some that most of us had never heard or said before. (We don't believe any members of our congregation congregation were around in those days). Father Hugh and Choir Director Catherine Cordon are to be congratulated congratulated and thanked for their efforts in setting up this service. At coffee-time, after Sunday's service, Natasha Edgerton and Ruth Welham- Umphrey were saluted with musical birthday honours. Remember that Sunday next, June 6th, will be Rogation Sunday and the Eucharist will be celebrated at the home of Fred and Cathy King. The serv- : ice begins at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by a pot-luck picnic lunch. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs. Fred and Cathy's home is located located at the North East Junction of the Scugog/Manvers Town-line and Waite Road in Manvcrs Township. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the church. Friday luncheon guests of Neil and Elaine Bailey were Elaine's aunt Joan Johnston of Abbotsford, B.C. and her daughter Mrs. Richard Johnson. Nathan and Mia of Ottawa. They also visited Ruth Thompson (sister-in-law) at the Nursing Home in Port Perry. Durham East 4-H Rabbit Club by Sarah Connelly On May 22, the 4-H rabbit club members held their second second meeting at the Blackstock Fairgrounds. Before entering the rabbit show, we studied the parts of a rabbit that the judge will refer to. Some of the parts were: the neck; the rib; the shoulder; the dewlap; the chest; the hip; the flank and many more. After we had learned the parts of a rabbit, we talked about what judges would look for in certain certain types of rabbits, for example, in an English Angora, the judges would look for good fur or, in a New Zealand, judges will look for a good muscular build. When we went into the show we asked exhibitors about their rabbits and got a chance to see many different types of rabbits. Later, we joined up with Durham West and once again reviewed what to look for when judging a rabbit. Andrea Meszaros attempted to sit a New Zealand rabbit in a bowling bowling ball position. (It is easier to judge the rabbits when in this position). After we learned some more judging techniques, we judged a class of New Zealand whites. No one can be wrong when judging judging but one of the people who placed the rabbits the same as the .official judge was Jen Morawetz." Using what we have learned so far in the club, David, James, Matthew and Sarah Rickey selected two beautiful mini-rex bunnies to take home. & Extended) LUMINA APV LUXURY CARS ASTRO/SAFARI 1996 APV White, 3.4L, air, power locks & windows, till, cruise, 1 owner, 85,130 km. 1996 APV Green, 3.4 L, air, 1 owner, 136,281. 1993 APV Green, 3.8 V6, cruise, air, auto, 106,835 km. *4-3tWS 12,025 *9.991 1997 Astro Olive, auto, air, new , lires, CD, running .. , L T 'fl? boards, 61,725. 1* 1995 Astro Ext.
