Lawn Bowling Club Needs Members by Brad Kelly Staff Writer A fixture in Bowmanvillc since 1905 is in danger of folding if a current membership drive doesn't produce favourable results. The Bowmanvillc Lawn Bowling Club has witnessed their membership numbers dwindle to the point that paying paying the bills to stay in operation is becoming increasingly difficult. While expenses such as hydro, taxes, and maintenance continue to escalate, membership numbers are going in reverse. The club, located on Queen St., has just over 25 faithful members, but would like to see those numbers double. double. "We would love for members of the public to come out to the club and give lawn bowling a try," says Doris Mould. "We try to urge anyone hanging hanging over the fence and watching us play to come in and give the game a try." The club provides a number of opportunities for its members to get together on a social level. Bowmanvillc hosts nine tournament a year, as well as travelling to other area clubs to compete on a regular basis. There are also social outings where games called jitney are played on Monday and Thursday nights, and Tuesday and Sunday afternoons. For $1, non-members can participate to see if they like the game. One of the things club members want to stress is that lawn bowling is open to all ages. In fact, the club in Cobourg has a strong teenage membership. membership. "We are open to anybody and everybody," says Mould. The second game saw the Reactors narrowly narrowly lose to a highly skilled Kitchener Spirit team who used their size in the air to get by the Reactors. An excellent game against a very good team. Julie Sesti had a good game in a losing cause. The Reactors third game of the day saw them combat poor field conditions, questionable questionable officiating, officiating, and a physical physical opponent to subdue Aurora 4- 1 to gain a berth in the semifinal. On Sunday, June 6, the Reactors played their arch-rival Pickering Power who are playing in the Provincial League this year. On a very hot, humid day the Reactors played a very tight game in the first half. A well taken free kick by Tanya Zdravkovski narrowly narrowly missed the net. Hard work by Caiomhe O'Donnell saw her battle through to the net only to be brought down without a penally kick awarded. In the second half, a well taken header by Danielle Tanner saw . Pickering open up a slim I- 0 lead which stood up for the remainder of the game. The Reactors played extremely well and were unlucky not to capitalize on their chances. Victory for Under-11 Team Play Better Golf For Life Darlington's Zcllers/Cedar Park Resort Under-11 boys had more than just the Oshawa Kicks to contend contend with on Wednesday night at Russctt Park in Oshawa. Heavy rain didn't let up from the start to finish and a drenched pitch and waterlogged waterlogged ball made life difficult for both sides. Darlington's Nathanael Paul opened up the scoring by crossing the ball into the goalmouth where it struck an Oshawa defender, slipping and sliding its way into the back of the net. MARKET HOURS: Mon. - Fit 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sat. and Sun. The Oshawa Kicks tied the game just minutes into the second half with a hard volley that beat keeper Jason Drews. Chris Juckic pounded a tremendous shot into the top comer that turned out to be the winner. Darlington's Scott Millet' and Greg Bathe were once again strong up through the middle, and Nathanael Paul was steady up front. Darlington lake their unbeaten record home to Hydro Fields, where they play host to the other Oshawa squad next Wednesday. 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Sat. 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Sun. after July 1, Question: Telma, I have read with interest your golf newsletters and I would like to know a little bit more about your golf injury and enhancement program. Who can benefit from it? This is a great question. The more serious a golfer you are the more you can benefit from the program. A serious golfer who plays a lot is like a finely tuned race car. Imagine what would happen, though, if the wheels on a race car start to warp and the race car starts to tilt to the right while it is driving. Can you imagine what would result going at high speeds with this? Same thing with a golfer. Anybody who has had even a minor injury that has interfered with his or her golf game can benefit very much from this program. I won't teach you how to play golf: if you want to learn how to play golf or improve the mechanics of the game, then you go see a golf pro. There you'll learn the correct elements of the swing and all the strategies required to play efficiently at your game. I have had the pleasure to treat a few golf pros and even they found the benefits of my golf treatment program. Most golfers that I see are out of alignment, like the car that pulls to the right. Those who have come into my clinic have shoulders that are too rounded, or the right shoulder is too low and the right hip is too high. Needless to say, these shortcomings create a lot of tension on the right side of the body. And golf Is not a game of tension. At least it shouldn't be. The golfer who is not in alignment but continues to play is an accident waiting to happen. Consider, too, the effects on your game. Poor posture c prevents you from making a full balanced rotational movement with proper weight shift through the golf swing. Without a full turn you will lose distance in your shot because you cannot generate as much head speed. Without proper weight shift and balance you will lose distance and lose control during your short game. My Golf Injury and Enhancement program is about a customized program designed to do three things. . 1. Deal with muscle tissue that has tightened up over time. 2. It Is designed to realign the body, to stretch the tissues that are too tight and to strengthen the tissues that are too weak. 3. To improve the posture of the body so that when you standing at the address phase you are In better alignment and will, consequently, play better golf. The Golf Injury and Enhancement program consists of an evaluation and then twelve treatments following the evaluation. Each treatment is a combination of releasing the tissues and then realigning the tissues through exercises that will return your body to its proper alignment. We are not talking about exercises to stretch and ready your muscles prior to practising or playing golf, but actually exercising that can correct your alignment and make you better able to play golf. Book an assessment with me today. I will show you what is wrong with your alignment and what you need to Improve.
