The OPP Northumberland detachment detachment reports a 1998 Windstar van was in the eastbound lanes of the highway, just east of the Burnham Street exit when the accident occurred. The van was in the passing lane, attempting to over-take a tractor trailer which was travelling in the driving lane. Police believe the van entered the gravel median shoulder, and the driver lost control control of the vehicle. The van crossed the eastbound lanes of the road and entered the south ditch, coming to rest on its roof. Police say the 18-year-old passenger, Becky-Jo Bisson, of Mississauga, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The van's driver, 25-year-old Tania Conway, also of Mississauga, was airlifted airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto with serious head injuries. But, as the officer approached on foot, the driver of the vehicle pulled back onto the road, says Sgt. Dionne. When he returned to his cruiser, the officer called in the license plate number and found the vehicle was stolen. According to Sgt. Dionne, it soon became clear the stolen vehicle was not going to slow down. The officer stopped the pursuit, but continued to drive in the same direction as the Jeep. The total cost of the building building was $13,176,506. ... The building boasts room for more th'ah"800 'studfcnts,' in' its IT regular classrooms, 37 specialty,:rqonis, cafe-, tcria, health unit and guidance-centre. The extra space is important, given the number of students who attend the school. This year, the sçhool's population population was 740. The number is expected to jump dramatically next year. "The new facility is a draw," says Kelly. "We're also keeping full retention retention of our elementary schools." Kelly says the new facility is especially especially well-designed, given the input staff had into the plans for the building. building. "They involved all of us in the planning planning and design. The staff had the opportunity to shape their subject discipline discipline areas," says Kelly, adding that, as a result, "everybody is really happy with the facility." The new school also meant another change for the students. This year, for the first time, the school adopted a policy policy on uniforms. Kelly says the new dress code hasn't presented a problem. "We really don't have a struggle with the uniforms. It's a comfortable uniform -- a good combination of casual and dressy," she says. But on the days when students arc allowed to come to school out of uniform uniform by donating a dollar to charity, Kelly says she doesn't hear many' arguments, "They do enjoy an out-of-uniform day," she admits, Police To Hold Community Day Safety will be the focus at the Durham Regional Police Clarington Sale Kids Community Day Saturday.
