All arrived on June 12, 1999, at 11 a.m. and. the girls served a sandwich luncheon. The afternoon was spent with games of competition. Marion Almey was our sharp shooter of the shooting shooting contest, followed by Brenda Stephens being the winner of the alley ping pong contest, defeating Greg and Bob Stephens. The main event was a ball game between Betty Thompson of Cobourg's team defeating Kate Stephens of Markham's team by a 17-16 score. Some of the viewers got so hot from cheering on the teams that they had to dawn their swim suits and go for a dip, while others just dipped their feet in. Bill Stephens, of Solina Women's Institute June 9th the ladies met for a wagon tour of Pingles Market-Farm. The lour was informative with Wally Pingle as our guide telling of soil erosion and irrigation work that had been put in place. Wally . outlined how the Market began. Later, all met at the community community hall for the remainder remainder of our meeting. President Donna Barkey called the meeting to order with all repeating the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes and financial reports were given and approved. The F.W.I.O. are partnering with the O.P.P. Phone Busters as well as the Ministry of Health. Jennifer Bowman gave an update on the Interest Courses coming up in the fall. We are requested to save our used stamps with a 1/4" margin and the post mark if legible. These will be sold at A.C.W.W. 2001 in small packages. We will enter a display at the Orono Fair. The theme will be "Celebrate the Future, Agriculture is a growing business". We will help to supply cookies for the Rest Area at the Orono Fair. The Motto "My garden needs a lot of water, a lot in the form of sweat" was given by Marjorie Cry derm an . of Bradley's. The roses and clematis open house is July 4th at Frank and Donna Barkey's, from 1 p.m. on. Sunday, July 25th we arc invited to Frank and Donna Barkey's for a Pot Luck picnic. picnic. Lunch is at 1 p.m. Please bring a chair and your swim suit. Our summer summer outing is to the horse races August 11th. The meeting closed with O Canada followed by the Institute Grace. Baker's group were in charge of the F.W.I.O. draws. P.R.O. Bernice Watson Markham, "Congratulated" Betty and Gordon Thompson of Cobourg on their 50th wedding anniversary anniversary and said grace as we all sat down to a supper fit for kings and queens. And we deserved it. After supper the evening games were just as exciting with a game like horse shoes only with washers. Eileen Moore and Bob Stephens defeated Kate Stephens and Betty Thompson in the first game, with Bob and Gregory Stephens defeating Gordon Thompson and Bill Stephens in the second. Everyone received a gift from the game's convenors, Maurice and Marion Stephens of Brampton, and Helen Cook of Bowmanville. The six sisters: Eileen Moore, Marion Almey, Bessie Forsey, Helen Cook, of Bowmanville, Ruby Knapp from Ottawa, and Betty Thompson of Cobourg, and four brothers: Bill of Markham, Maurice of Brampton and Gregory and Bob of Bowmanville, were all in attendance with the exception of the seventh sister, Peggy Frank, of Crooked Creek, who was touring the British lies with husband Ron, whom we really missed.
