In their first game the Reactors played North Mississauga Strikers. These two teams had met in the Ontario Cup the previous previous weekend and played to a 2-2 tic. This time however the Reactors fell behind 1-0 on an unlucky deflection in the first half and could not get the tying goal. Pressing hard in the second half the Reactors gave up two more goals for a 3-0 loss. In their second game against Scarborough Storm, the Reactors controlled controlled the midfield very well and were unlucky not to go ahead in the game. With less than 5 minutes remaining the Storm picked up a loose ball in the Reactors area and went ahead 1-0. The Reactors were unable to penetrate the Storm defence and lost narrowly for the second time in 2 weeks to the Storm by the same score. This time the Reactors played much better against their league opponents. In the last tournament game on Saturday, July 3rd, the Reactors played the Sarnia Spirit. Lauren Alexander, playing a strong game on the right wjng opened, the scoring against the Spirit, and the Reactors added to their score with a goal by Caoimhc O'Donnell. Hard work by Julia Sesti created numerous chances in the second second half but the Reactors could not increase their lead. Many thanks to Rachel Wallace, Marsha Jejna and Meghan Mandville who played for the Reactors as guest players this weekend. weekend. The Reactors are looking forward to their next tournament in Ottawa next month. Degenerative Disc Disease Help is Here Question: Telma, I have been told that I have degenerative disc disease in my neck. My symptoms are, my neck is very stiff and sore. I cannot turn it very well, especially when I am going to back my car out. I have been told that physiotherapy can help, but I do not see why I should bother because I have been told that the problem is because of degenerative disc disease. How are you going to change that? If I had a dollar every time I am asked this question...you know the rest. In short, physiotherapy can help and it will provide relief from this painful and debilitating condition. But before I tell you how, let's talk a little bit about what, exactly, degenerative disc disease is and how it affects the sufferer. Degenerative disc disease means that there Is a narrowing of the disc space between the vertebrae of a person's the spine. A disc is a jelly-like material that serves as the cushion between the bones of the spine. When this cushion or buffer is worn down, the medical diagnosis Is degenerative disc disease. Other complicating conditions may follow. For example, the liplng of the joint, A bony formation will occur around the disc space to compensate for iho narrowing that Is Inevitable with degenerative disc disease. In many cases, arthritis will surface In the joints on either side of the disc. Unfortunately, there is more to neck pain you suffer then just the narrowing of the disc space. One of the key considerations is the posture of the neck. All patients that I have ever seen with complaints of neck pain have one of two postures: rounded shoulders or a forward poking head. These result In neck spasm - the actual source of the pain. The neck muscles are tight and the head Is sitting on the neck In the wrong position, thus the neck does not have the range it needs to make a simple turn of the head. Physiotherapy cannot reverse degenerative disc disease; that is not what it was designed to do. What physiotherapy will do is correct your posture and release your neck muscle spasm, then we'll teach you how to realign your body for better posture. The result? Less pain and more range- of-motion. At my clinic we take a whole body approach, explaining to patients all the possible pieces to the puzzle of why they are feeling pain. We got to the source of the problem rather than simply treating the pain. This Is doflnitoly achievable oven if you have degenerative disc disease, To receive Telma's newsletters please fax us your name and address to: (905) 623-9236. 1C PLAY YOUR BEST GAME FOR LIFEI SÎ CAN AD A-WIDE [Ï 1 1999 Oldsmebile Intrigue SmartLease *318 36 MONTHS Purchase *27595 (Includes freight of S835 ond Air Tax of SIOO.
