! l Aerobathon Raises Funds For Cancer Research On Saturday, June 26th, 65 energetic people were brought together to exercise and raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. The aerobics were led by Certified Fitness Instructor, Lesli McAree, owner of Stress- Les Aromatherapy Studio in Bowmanville. Kickboxercise was led by Sensi Carl Stedmond. The Stress-Les Aerobathon '99 raised over $4,000 for the Cancer Society. The Aerobathon was in memory of local resident, Penny Day, who recently passed away from cancer. The fund-raiser took place at Dr. Ross Tilley School, in Bowmanville. Still No Losses for Green Gael Squad Dave Edgar says no one had any idea just how successful the Clarington Green Gaels would be this season. "Scarborough always gives us a tougher game., than they should," he admits, adding his experienced line-up knows what they have to do to be in a position to repeat last year's Founders Cup victory. "I think the only team that can beat us is. ourselves... we know what needs to be done," he says. "It's been fun so far," adds the coach. Junior Tennis Day Camp in Bowmanville The Bowmanville Tennis Club is again holding its Junior Tennis Day Camp. It will be held during the week of July 12 to July 16th. There will be two age groups (coed) (coed) with a limit of sixteen children in each age group. The morning session is for children aged 8-10 and will run from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday. The afternoon session is for children children aged 11-13 and will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Sessions are held at the Bowmanville Tennis Club on Beech Avenue (next to the Clarington Older Adult Association building). The Camp is open to children who have never played tennis, as well as those who have already been introduced to the game. Participants do not need to be members of the Bowmanville Tennis Club. Registration Fee is $65.00 per child, The fee includes the cost of instruction, court time, refreshments, practice balls and a t-shirt for each child. WELCOME TO BOWMANVILLE -- Garry Minnie, President of the East Durham Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, greeted cyclists with the Gail Perks Memorial Bike Tour at Rotary Park on Thursday, July 1. The cyclists rode from Pickering to Kingston to raise money for cancer research. Riding for Cancer Research It was hot and muggy on Canada Day, but that didn't stop about 20 cyclists making their way from Pickering to Kingston to raise money for Cancer Research. Rest Stop in Rotary Park The riders, who were with the third annual Gail Perks Memorial Bike Tour, came through Bowmanville in the morning, making a rest stop at Rotary Park. Organizer Kilby Perks, who started the ride after his daughter- in-law passed away, says the ride keeps getting stronger every year. "We raised $6,200 last year and this year we're hoping for $10,000," he said. Bound for Kingston The group rode 300 kilometers over three days, stopping in Port Hope and then Picton before riding into Kingston. "I started this with my brother-in- law and son-in-law and each year we get more and more people participating," participating," said Perks. "We're up to 20 people people and the original group has stayed intact. We've got some extremely accomplished athletes travelling with us and some people that have never done any distance at all."
