Ontario Savings Bonds Sales Reach New Heights Finance Minister Ernie Eves has announced , sales exceeding $2 billion in Ontario Savings ..Bonds, the highest provincial savings bond issue - in Canadian history. "Ontario Savings Bonds have become a very popular investment preference for people , throughout the province," Eves said. "Ontarians want to invest in a strong, growing economy and they want to keep their investments here at home," he added. This is the second year in a row that the Province has set savings bonds sales records. The highest previous sales were $2 billion in 1998. Most provinces in Canada issue their own savings savings bonds. During the 1999 campaign, for the first time, Ontarians were offered the convenience of buying buying their bonds directly by telephone or by downloading downloading an application from the Internet. Bonds were also available at banks, trust companies, credit unions, caisses populaires, Province of Ontario Savings Offices and through investment dealers. Ontario Savings Bonds were available in amounts from $100 to $500,000 to Ontario residents residents between May 28 and June 18. "This way, small to large investors all have the opportunity to invest in Ontario and get very competitive interest rates no matter what the size of their investment", Eves said.
