Teacher Shaves Head to Raise $ 9,000 Students at Monsignor. Leo Cleary Elementary School raised just over $9,000 in a fund-raiser that resulted in a close shave for one of their teachers. David Ashcroft, a grade four teacher, promised to have his head shaved on the last day of school if over $9,000 was raised in the final months of class. Thanks to donations from various businesses, donations from parents, a cookie and muffin batter sale and the sale of milkshakes every Friday, the school achieved its target. And on Tuesday, June 29th, Mr. Ashcroft made good on his promise and submitted to the clippers. John Michaels Hair Design provided the close shave. Special thanks go to all the businesses who contributed contributed to the cause and also to the lollowing businesses businesses who provided prizes as an incentive to the fund-raising efforts: Cineplcx Odeon Theatres in Bowmanvillc; Country Style Doughnuts in Courtice and Van Belle Florists. The money, along with $8,000 raised earlier in the year, will be spent on playground equipment that will be installed for grades JK to three this summer. Next year, the fund-raiser will focus on piny ground equipment for grades 4-6 and the following year, the fund-raiser will purchase equipment for grades 7 and 8, Tito first event to raise funds for Monsignor Leo Cleary Elementary School in September will lie a Caribbean carnival on September 23.
